Do you need to catch a Sunfish in Stardew Valley? In most cases, your first fish will be a Sunfish. However, if you need more for a quest or the Community Center, you can easily find it in the Spring or Summer. Here's where to find Sunfish in Stardew Valley and how to use it.

Catching Sunfish in Stardew Valley

In Stardew Valley, Sunfish can be caught in Rivers from 6 AM to 7 PM in Spring and Summer. This fish can be caught with Fishing Level 1 and higher. Sunfish can be used as gifts, in quests, and more.

Sunfish can be found in Rivers, 6 AM to 7 PM, in Spring and Summer. This fish will appear when the weather is sunny or windy. This includes rivers found on Riverlands Farms, Forest Farms, and Hill-top Farms.^{[1]

Research source} You'll just need to cast your fishing rod in the water during this time frame, and you should be able to reel one in.
- Sunfish may be found randomly in the Traveling Cart, in Garbage Cans during Spring and Summer, or gifted by a pet cat with max friendship.
- Because of the game's code, the first fish you reel in is usually a Sunfish. When you meet certain code requirements, you may be able to catch Sunfish in any season.
- You can use Magic Bait to catch Sunfish in any weather, time, and season.

Sunfish can be gifted to villagers. While not recommended, you can give Sunfish as a neutral gift to Demetrius, Elliott, Leo, Linus, Pam, Sebastian, and Willy.
- Neutral gifts give 20 friendship points on a normal day, 100 points during the Winter Star Festival, and 160 points during birthdays.
This bundle is located near the Fish Tank in the Community Center.

You can use Sunfish to make recipes. There are four cooking recipes total that can use Sunfish:
- Baked Fish
- Maki Roll
- Quality Fertilizer
- Sashimi

Use Sunfish to make a Fish Shirt. You can use the Sewing Machine in Emily's and Haley's house along with some Cloth.
- Sunfish can also be used as an orange dye.
When the capacity is increased to 10, the primary output will be Sunfish Roe, with a small chance of Solar Essence.
These quests can be found at the "Help Wanted" board outside of Pierre's store or at the Special Orders board near the Lewis' house.
