Leaving a Server on Discord

To leave a Discord server, click on the server name and select Leave Server. If you are the owner of a server, you must transfer ownership before you can leave it. To do this, go to Server Settings > Members, click the three-dot menu next to the user you want to make the new owner, then select Transfer Ownership.

   Click on the server's name in the upper-left corner. This will open the server menu. Make sure you've selected the server you want to leave.

   Click Leave Server. It's the option with red text at the bottom of the server menu.

   Click Leave Server again. Discord will ask you to confirm if you want to leave the server. Click the red Leave Server button to confirm, or click Cancel if you change your mind.

   Tap on the server's name at the top of the screen. This will open the server menu. Make sure you've selected the server you want to leave.

   Tap Leave Server. It's the option with red text at the bottom of the server menu. You may have to scroll to find it.

   Tap Yes to confirm. Discord will ask you to confirm if you want to leave the server. Tap the red Yes button to confirm, or click No if you change your mind.

Transferring Server Ownership

   Open your server's settings and go to the Members menu. To do this, click or tap on the server's name, select Server Settings, then select Members under "User Management." It's at the bottom of the server's settings.

   • Before you can leave a server that you are the owner of, you must transfer ownership of it to another user first.

   Click or tap the three-dot menu next to the user you want to transfer ownership to. This will open the member "More Options" menu.

   Select Transfer Ownership. It's the button with red text at the bottom of the options menu.

   • Once you've transferred ownership of the server, you can then leave it by clicking or tapping on the server's name and selecting Leave Server.
   • If you want to leave a server that you created but that has no other members, you can delete it instead. To do this, open your Server Settings, scroll down, and select Delete Server. However, once a server is deleted, it can't be restored, so make sure you really want to delete it before doing so.

Can I leave a server without anyone knowing?

   The only way to leave a server secretly is to abandon your account. There are many variables when it comes to how noticeable your exit from the server will be, but there is no way to completely hide that you left a server. If the server has thousands of members and you weren't active it's not likely that you leaving would be noticed, but a smaller server or one that you chatted in often would likely notice your absence.

   • When you leave a Discord server, these are some of the ways the remaining users may find out that you left:
     • You aren't on the member list anymore
     • You aren't chatting in the server anymore
     • The audit log shows the server admins that you left
     • The server has a bot that notifies some or all members of users that leave
     • The server has a bot that prints audit messages to admins in a dedicated server, where it would show that you left
   • As such, the only way to truly leave a Discord server without being noticed is to stop using your account. The remaining users may notice that you aren't coming around anymore, but there would be no audit logs or bot messages announcing that you left.

What happens if I rejoin a server I left?

   When you rejoin, you will be (mostly) treated as a new user by Discord. You will join the server with no roles (unless the server has a default role for new joiners) and your join date will be new. However, any messages you sent prior to leaving (that are still in the server) will be attributed to your account again.
