You’ve been swept up in the KPop Demon Hunters craze and want to dress up as the brooding, mysterious Jinu—but how can you put together a great Jinu costume? We’re here to help! Whether you’re planning to be Jinu for Halloween or want to cosplay at some other event, creating a Jinu costume isn’t as complex as it might feel. In this article, we’ll show you how to create costumes for idol Jinu (his human disguise) and demon Jinu (including the “Your Idol” version), with tips on where to find all the clothing items, accessories, and other supplies you’ll need!

A Quick Overview on Making a Jinu Costume

Idol Jinu wears a pink undershirt, a long-sleeved white button-down with a blue windowpane pattern, pale skinny jeans, a pink belt, and white sneakers.
Demon Jinu wears a traditional hanbok, with a jeogori shirt and long jeonbok vest. Recreate this with a black costume kimono, red cord, baji pants, and gat hat.

Shirts By “Idol version,” we’re talking about Jinu’s human pop-star disguise! To start, Jinu wears two shirts—a pink undershirt and a collared button-down shirt over that. You can pick up a bright pink t-shirt super easily, either by thrifting or buying one from a retailer (like this one on Amazon). For the button-down, thrift or shop for a long-sleeved white shirt with a blue windowpane pattern.
- Some online retailers like Cossky and Sun Baby have direct replicas of Jinu’s shirt for sale. You can also shop for a shirt that looks similar (maybe not exact) yourself; Amazon has plenty of options, like this shirt.
- At one point, Jinu wears a pale pink button-down instead of the white; if that’s easier to find, go for that look instead!
- For your final look, leave a few of the top buttons unbuttoned (so you can see the top of the pink undershirt), roll your sleeves up to your elbows, and tuck the front of the shirt into your pants.
In his human disguise, Jinu just wears a pair of light blue skinny jeans. It’s that simple; you might have a pair in your closet already! If you don’t, you can easily hit the thrift store in search of a pair or just visit your favorite jean retailer. For example, Amazon Essentials has a relatively inexpensive pair of light blue vintage skinny jeans, but you can also just run a search and pick a pair yourself.

You’ll want to track down a pair of white hi-top sneakers for your Jinu costume. Like the jeans, you have a lot of options open to you. It’d be easy enough to go thrifting or, alternatively, to a shoe store of your choice. You can also shop online for a pair; Amazon alone has literally hundreds of options for white hi-top sneakers!

Accessories In terms of accessories, Jinu wears a pink belt and a thin silver chain necklace. He also sometimes has a pair of tinted sunglasses with a pink frame; you can decide if you want to wear them with your costume or not (or just wear a pair of your own sunglasses as a substitute).
- Once again, Amazon has a ton of men’s pink belt options if you’re in a hurry. Or, try thrifting for one.
- The same goes for silver chains, although you might already have one that’d work just as well!

Hair Jinu’s hair is black and cut short with a textured fringe in front. This style is called the “two-block cut”; if you have short, dark hair already, simply style it like Jinu’s. Otherwise, grab a black-haired wig (and, if necessary, cut it to look like Jinu’s hair yourself).
- If you search for a Jinu wig on Amazon, you’ll find some wig options that are already styled for you!

Demon patterns (optional) Now, technically speaking, Jinu’s demon patterns aren’t on display when he’s in his human disguise. But we say there’s nothing wrong with using some artistic license and adding them to your costume if you want to make it super clear who you’re dressed as. Use purple water-activated body paint and a paintbrush to create Jinu’s demon patterns on your face and neck.

Top (demon only) As a demon at the beginning of the movie, Jinu wears traditional Korean clothing. The robe-like outfit he wears is called a hanbok—although it’s actually multiple layers of clothing. The hanbok is a combination of a black jeogori shirt, a long, ankle-length jeonbok vest worn over it, and a red sejodae sash tied around his waist.^{[1]

- The red sejodae is basically a type of red cord with tassels, which you can find online.
- If you’re DIY-ing this costume, you could opt for a black costume kimono instead of searching for an actual hanbok (which, understandably, might be harder to find).
- For the shirt underneath, anything black will work; to look as authentic as possible, opt for a wrap or band collar shirt.
- There are also plenty of Jinu costumes for sale online, if you don’t mind spending the money on them. For instance, Ezcosplay has a Jinu costume, Amazon has several options, and you can also find costumes from independent sellers on Etsy, like this one.

Top (“Your Idol” demon) When he sings “Your Idol” at the end of the movie, you might notice that Jinu’s demon look is altered! He wears a black sochangui overcoat and jeogori shirt, with silver demon patterns featured on the cuffs and hem of the overcoat.
- If you’re planning to DIY this costume, get yourself a plain men’s black kimono cardigan (or an actual sochangui overcoat, if you can find one).
- Then, use silver fabric paint to add the demon pattern design to the overcoat’s sleeve cuffs and hem.
- For the shirt underneath, anything black will work; to look as authentic as possible, opt for a wrap or band collar shirt.
- Of course, there’s always the option to buy a premade Jinu costume. You can get the black-and-silver demon costume on Amazon, Cossky, and Ezcosplay, as well as from independent Etsy shops like this one.

Pants In his first demon form, Jinu wears traditional baji trousers, which are a type of pants that make up part of the hanbok. They’re loose-fitting and baggy in the leg, tapered at the ankles, and tied around the waist. Jinu’s baji trousers are black (like the rest of his hanbok). However, during his “Your Idol” performance, Jinu is wearing tight black modern pants with a silver pants chain.^{[2]

Shoes In his demon form at the beginning of the movie, Jinu wears a black pair of traditional Korean hye shoes; basically, slip-on shoes that resemble flats, covering the heel, not the ankle. When performing “Your Idol,” however, Jinu wears a pair of black combat boots—much more modern and easy to find if you need to go shopping for them.
- If you’re struggling to find an actual pair of hye shoes, look for black martial arts slippers instead (the kind of shoe people might wear when doing tai chi or kung fu).
- And, of course, if you want to dress up as “Your Idol” Jinu, go thrifting for some black combat boots or find them online!
Demon Jinu wears a Korean gat—a type of traditional hat with a wide brim and a tall, cylindrical cap. In fact, he’s wearing the gat both at the beginning of the movie and during the “Your Idol” performance, so whichever Jinu you’re dressing up as, get a black gat hat to complete the outfit!^{[3]

Jinu’s hair remains basically the same throughout the entire movie, whether he’s disguised or not. He has black hair that’s cut short and styled with a textured fringe in front; this is called a “two-block cut” hairstyle. Try styling your hair if you already have it cut short, or just look for a Jinu wig (or any black-haired wig you can cut into the right style yourself).

Demon patterns Use purple water-activated body paint and a paintbrush to create Jinu’s demon patterns on your face and neck. Be sure to work with a picture of Jinu, so you can get his patterns as accurate as possible! In the movie, he has purple patterns coming up over his chin, wrapping around his eye and cheekbone, and stretching across his nose from the right.
- It’s okay if the patterns you paint aren’t perfectly accurate; as long as you get the basic look, people will recognize you!
- Jinu also has glowing orange-yellow eyes with cat-like slits for pupils in his demon form. You can get a similar look with contact lenses, though it’s totally fine if you prefer not to wear them.
