A beginner’s guide to channeling Mira’s most iconic looks
PDF download Download Article

Are you ready to transform from ordinary citizen to cool, chic demon slayer? We can help! Mira is one of the three amazing members of K-pop group HUNTR/X in KPop Demon Hunters, and she has some suitably iconic looks to match her heroic role. In this article, we’ll help you put together DIY Mira costumes based on three of her most popular looks: “How It’s Done,” “Golden,” and “What It Sounds Like.” Keep reading for a complete tutorial on constructing your favorite Mira costume!

An Overview of Mira’s KPop Demon Hunters Costumes

  • Mira’s “How It’s Done” look consists of a black cropped t-shirt with a graphic design on it, a yellow denim skirt, and black thigh-high boots with bright magenta embellishments.
  • Mira’s “Golden” look includes a black cropped jacket with gold trim and white-gold epaulettes, a white skirt with gold trim, and short heeled boots.
  • Mira’s “What It Sounds Like” look is the same as her “Golden” outfit, except her jacket and undershirt are white rather than black.

Creating Mira’s “How It’s Done” Costume

  1. During the opening number of KPop Demon Hunters, Mira’s iconic look includes a cropped t-shirt with a graphic, blue and pink image of mountains and the phrase “WON’T MISS” on it. If you’re doing a DIY costume, start with a plain black cropped t-shirt (which you can easily get on sites like Amazon or at a retailer of your choice). Then, create the design yourself with the following supplies:[1]
    • Write “WON’T MISS” across the upper chest area of the shirt using magenta pink fabric paint. Follow the instructions on the paint container for best application practices!
    • Create the mountain graphic for the lower half of the shirt with light blue and light pink fabric paint.
    • If you’re worried about messing up, make your fabric paint design on a separate sheet of black felt. Then, attach the felt to the shirt with fabric tape or glue.
    • And, if you’d rather not recreate Mira’s shirt yourself, you can always buy the top on the official Netflix online shop. You can also get a full Mira costume from sites like Spirit Halloween or EZCosplay.
  2. Mira’s look also includes a short yellow denim skirt. You don’t necessarily have to get a denim skirt, though; anything similar-looking and yellow is totally fine! You can even get a yellow tennis or activewear skirt, a faux leather skirt, or a corduroy skirt. You can also go thrifting for a yellow skirt, or get a longer skirt and hem it short yourself.[2]

  3. For Mira’s footwear, you’ll need a pair of black thigh-high boots! Now, Mira’s boots have bright magenta patches over the knee area and white markings on the sides above the knee. If you want to include those, it might be easier to wear a shorter, below-the-knee pair of black boots with black thigh-high socks underneath.
    • If you opt for the thigh-high socks, use fabric glue to attach magenta felt or fabric to the knee area and white felt to the sides of the thighs (on the socks rather than on a pair of boots).
    • If you’d rather shop for a pre-made Mira costume, footwear isn’t included—most Mira costumes come with socks or leggings with the boot pattern on them.
  4. Mira has three main accessories to go with her “How It’s Done” outfit: a black choker with a circular silver pendant, a silver pants chain, and a norigae charm hanging from her skirt. Norigae are traditional Korean charms or ornaments, typically consisting of pendants, tassels, and cords. They serve as good luck charms for those who wear them![3]
    • If your Mira skirt doesn’t have belt loops (from which you can hang your waist chain and norigae), consider wearing a belt over the skirt that can hold the chain and norigae instead.
  5. Mira’s iconic pink hair is easy enough to style—but it’s up to you if you want to get a long pink wig, dye your hair, or just style it as is and not worry about the pink at all. As for the hairstyle, we’ll show you the full process in this guide; the basic idea is to split the front part of your hair in half, leaving some loose in the back. Then, make smaller matching ponytails with the hair you split in front, and you’re all set![4]
    • You can also buy pre-styled Mira wigs online.

Making Mira’s “Golden” & "What It Sounds Like" Costumes

  1. Mira wears a sparkly black cropped jacket with gold trim and tasselled gold epaulettes on the shoulders. Grab a cropped black jacket, then, simply use gold fabric tape to add the trim. Finally, grab a pair of gold tasselled epaulettes and attach them to the jacket’s shoulders with either safety pins or fabric glue.
    • If you want to be able to reuse the jacket without the epaulettes, use safety pins to attach them—that way, they’ll be removable.
    • Want to make your own epaulettes? We’ll show you how!
    • If crafting isn’t your forte, you can also buy a Mira costume online, on sites like EZCosplay, Cossky, and even Etsy.
    • For Mira’s “What It Sounds Like” costume, get a white cropped jacket instead!
  2. Underneath the jacket, Mira wears a black, cropped tube top with gold trim and embellishments on it. If you’re creating a DIY Mira costume, use gold fabric tape to create the trim and embellishments (which run diagonally toward the center of the shirt), or attach gold trim to the shirt with fabric glue.
    • Mira’s top also has a golden star at the very center, where the diagonal golden lines converge.
    • Attach a gold star patch to the shirt, or create your own star with gold fabric paint.
    • For Mira’s “What It Sounds Like” costume, get a white cropped tube top instead of black—everything else remains the same!
  3. Mira’s “Golden” and “What It Sounds Like” skirt is white, with a slit on one side along the thigh. If you can’t find a short white skirt with a slit already there, make a slit yourself (or forgo the slit altogether). There’s also a bit of black that can be seen underneath Mira’s skirt, so consider wearing a pair of black spandex shorts under your skirt.
    • Mira’s skirt also has gold accents running along the slit; use gold fabric tape to create those thin stripes.
    • Mira’s outfit turns all-white during “What It Sounds Like.” If you’re going for that look, wear white spandex shorts instead.
  4. For her “Golden” outfit, Mira wears a pair of short, heeled black and white boots (white around the foot and ankle, black above). During “What It Sounds Like,” the boots shift to entirely white—like the rest of Mira’s outfit. So, it’s up to you whether you want to find a pair of black and white boots, or just go for the short, heeled white boots Mira is wearing at the end.
    • Since it’s tough to find a pair of black and white boots that look exactly like Mira’s, you could also try wearing white ankle boots with taller black socks underneath.
  5. Mira’s main “Golden” accessory is a thick black belt with a gold satin sash tied to it (or a thick white belt, if you’re making Mira’s “What It Sounds Like” costume). Whether it’s black or white, the belt also has a thin gold stripe running through the center, all the way around. You can add this stripe with gold fabric tape, and tie a gold sash onto the belt yourself, letting it drape down over the skirt.
  6. There are no extra bells and whistles to worry about when it comes to styling Mira’s hair for “Golden” or “What It Sounds Like”; she has the same style throughout the whole movie. Styling Mira’s hair involves creating two smaller pigtails on either side of your head, leaving the hair in the back of your head to hang loose in a cute, half-up and half-down look. You can refer to a complete guide here.[5]
    • For a special little touch, consider using gold hair ties to create Mira’s hairstyle!
    • Once again, you can buy a prestyled Mira wig if you’d rather not worry about your natural hair (since Mira’s is very long and very pink).
