Tung Tung Tung Sahur—sure, it sounds catchy, but what is it? Don’t worry, we’re here to explain everything about this Indonesian/Italian Brainrot character who looks like a baseball bat carrying a baseball bat, including who he is, what his name means, where he comes from, and his controversial removal from the popular video game Steal a Brainrot.

Tung Tung Tung Sahur Explained

Tung Tung Tung Sahur is an AI-generated character who looks like a baseball bat, with a human face, arms, and legs. His name mimics the sound of a drum (“tung”) played to call Muslims to their pre-fast meal of Sahur. It’s said that if you ignore the call three times, Tung Tung will appear.

  1. Tung Tung is a baseball bat with a human face, arms, and legs, and he’s often seen carrying a second, inanimate baseball bat. According to some traditions, he can only appear during the morning meal of Sahur, although in newer memes, he appears if you call his name three times.[1]
    • Although Tung Tung is Indonesian, he’s considered a major character in the Italian Brainrot trend, which features cartoon-like AI characters that mix and match features from humans, animals, and inanimate objects.

Origin and Spread of Tung Tung Tung Sahur

  1. TikTok user @noxaasht posted a video featuring the newly-created Tung Tung Tung Sahur character. The video showed a static picture of Tung Tung, although there were added effects like fiery screen dissolves and a close-up of Tung Tung’s feet. A voiceover in Indonesian accompanies the video, encouraging viewers to wake up early enough to eat Sahur (or else Tung Tung might appear).
    • Translated into English, the voiceover says: “Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Tung Sahur. Scary anomaly that only comes out at Sahur. It is said that if someone is called for Sahur three times and does not answer, then this creature comes to your house. It's very scary. Tung tung usually makes a sound like a gong. Share it with your friends who have trouble eating Sahur.”
    • The original Tung Tung video exploded in popularity and currently has over 6.3 million likes on TikTok.
  2. Less than two weeks after @noxaasht’s video was posted, TikToker @redbluzx_tiktoq posted a second Tung Tung video. This one showed Tung Tung swinging his bat and running. At the end of the video, he explodes. This video was also extremely popular, currently boasting nearly 500,000 likes.
    • TikToker @drw.artz posted a Tung Tung Tung Sahur drawing tutorial video set to the original voiceover that racked up over 300K TikTok likes.
    • Tung Tung won third place in Know Your Meme’s “Meme of the Month” for April 2025.
    • In late March 2025, as Ramadan drew to a close, some Indonesian users posted farewell videos indicating that Tung Tung was leaving the area (often on a rocketship) as he would no longer be needed to wake people for Sahur. (That may be around the time sightings began in the U.S.)
    • Videos showing Tung Tung appearing in real life (like this one, this one, or this one) are also extremely popular.
  3. The catchy “Tung Tung Sahur Funk” by YouTuber TheGoodVibe racked up nearly 100k views in less than two weeks. EDM group W&W released “Tung Tung Tung Sahur (Italian Brainrot).” And popular YouTube music creator Horror Skunx released “Tung Tung Tung Sahur - Ratatung,” where Tung Tung seeks to dethrone “Liar (Shin Sonic)” as Horror Skunx’s top song.

Steal a Brainrot Controversy & Removal

PDF download Download Article
  1. Steal a Brainrot is a popular Roblox game in which players collect popular Brainrot characters and steal them from other players. Tung Tung Tung Sahur was originally featured in the game, but was removed in September 2025 after his creator, Noxa, reached out to the creators of the game. While Noxa did not ask the game’s creator, Sammy, to remove the character, Sammy immediately got his lawyers involved due to potential copyright issues.[3]
    • Because Tung Tung was created with AI, it’s a bit unclear whether the character can be copyrighted. However, Noxa did come up with the character, and Steal a Brainrot was making millions of revenue using his work.
    • Tung Tung’s removal immediately began trending on TikTok and X (Twitter), with users posting (mostly ironic) sad and angry videos and memes. This TikTok by @100attacktv shows the creator pretending to cry while watching a video of Tung Tung, while this one by @lanaslifeee shows the creator dramatically lip-syncing alongside the character.
    • Fans have also angrily commented on Noxa’s TikTok posts, with one top comment saying, “You did this because of your greedy ahh.” The comment is accompanied by an image of Martin Luther King, Jr., crying.[4]

What does Tung Tung Tung Sahur mean?

PDF download Download Article
  1. The sound refers to a Muslim tradition in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunup to sundown. They have a large meal called Sahur (or suhoor) before dawn to prepare themselves. In some communities, people walk through the streets shouting “Sahur!” while playing a two-headed drum called a bedug. This is done to wake people in time to eat sahur.[5]
    • The name Tung Tung Tung Sahur mimics the drum beat (tung) and shout—”Tung, tung, tung, ‘Sahur!’”[6]
