Do you want to unlink your phone number from Instagram? If you don't want people to add you as a friend through your number or if you want to prevent others from finding you, you can easily remove your phone number from your account. This must be done in a few ways, but don't worry; it's all fairly quick. Here's how to remove a phone number from Instagram using your iPhone, iPad, Android, or computer.

Quick Steps

Tap your profile picture and tap Edit profile.
Tap Personal information settings.
Tap Contact info.
Tap Add new contact and enter a new email address.
Tap your current phone number.
Tap Delete mobile number.

Method 1

Open the Instagram app. This app icon looks like a camera lens icon on a pink and purple gradient background. Sign in if you aren't logged in already.
- Use this method to remove a phone number used to log into your Instagram account. Keep in mind you must have an email address you can use to replace your sign in method.
- To completely remove your phone number from Instagram, make sure to also disable faster logins, disable mobile two-factor authentication, and delete your synced contacts.
You can find this at the bottom-right corner. Your profile page will open.

You can find this near the bottom. Your Account Center settings will open.
This is the first option.
This is the blue button at the bottom. Before you can delete your mobile number, you must have another method to sign into your account.

Add your email. Tap Add email in the pop-up menu, enter your email address, and then tap Next. You will be asked to verify your email with a code sent by Instagram. Once verified, the email will be linked to your Instagram account.
- Return to the Contact information page.
You should now see your email address above or below your linked phone number.
This is at the bottom.
Your phone number will be deleted. You'll now need to use your linked email address to log into your Instagram account.

Open the Instagram app. This app icon looks like a camera lens icon on a pink and purple gradient background. Sign in if you aren't logged in already.
- Use this method to remove your saved mobile number for faster logins with your Instagram account. This feature is only available for some devices and countries.
- If you want to remove your phone's synced contacts, skip to the third method instead.
You can find this at the bottom-right corner. Your profile page will open.
This is at the top-right corner.

Tap Accounts Center. You can find this at the very top of the page, underneath Your account.
- If you don't have this option, tap Security instead. Then, skip the next step.
This is in the middle of the menu.
This is the third option. On some devices, this will look like Saved login info.

Toggle off the "Saved Login" switch. If you see multiple accounts in the Accounts Center, select your Instagram account first to see this option.
- If you don't have the Accounts Center, tap the switch next to Saved phone number to toggle off your saved phone number for this account.

- You may have your phone number connected to your Instagram account as a security method for two-factor authentication. Use this method to disable it.^{[1]

If you have more than one account, you'll see them listed here.

Select the security method to disable. In most cases, this will be Text message, where Instagram sends you a login code to your mobile phone number.
- If you see the options to Add instead, this means you currently don't have two-factor authentication set up with a mobile number.
Depending on your device, Instagram may send you a code to confirm the disabling of two-factor authentication. Follow the on-screen instructions to turn off two-factor authentication with your phone number.

Log into the Instagram website on a desktop web browser.
- Use this method to remove a phone number used to log into your Instagram account. Keep in mind you must have an email address you can use to replace your sign in method.^{[2]

- You may have your phone number connected to your Instagram account as a security method for two-factor authentication. Use this method to disable it.

Click ☰. This is at the bottom-left corner. A pop-up menu will open.

Click Settings. This is the cog icon.

Disable contacts syncing on the Instagram app. Before you can delete all your synced contacts, you must first disable contacts syncing on all devices logged into the Instagram app.^{[3]

- Open the Instagram app on your mobile device(s).
- Tap your profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap ☰ Menu.
- Tap Accounts Center.
- Tap Your Information and Permissions.
- Tap Upload Contacts.
- Select your Instagram account.
- Toggle off Connect Contacts.
- Tap Disconnect.

Log into the Instagram website on a desktop web browser. Keep in mind that the steps going forward must be done on a computer.
- If you don't remember your password, you'll need to reset it.

Click your profile picture. This is on the left side. You'll be redirected to your profile page.

Click Edit profile. A menu will open.

Click See more in Accounts Center. You'll be redirected to a new page.

Click Your information and permissions. This is in the middle of the menu.

Click Manage contacts. If you have more than one Instagram account linked, you'll need to select your account first to see this option.

Click Delete all. Currently, there's no way to delete individual contacts from Instagram; you must delete all or none.

Click Delete. The contacts will be deleted. It can take up to 90 days for your contacts to be completely deleted from your Instagram.
