  1. Tap the Chat tab.
  2. Tap a group chat.
  3. Tap the group subject.
  4. Tap Add or Add Members.
  5. Select a user.
  6. Tap the green checkmark or Add.

    • If you aren't already logged into WhatsApp, enter your phone number and password to do so now.[1]

    • The user will be invited to the group chat. When they join, everyone in the chat will see the notification.
    • If the Approve New Members feature is turned on, the request will need to be approved by the group chat's admin first.
    • If you want to leave the group chat in the future, you can leave silently.

Creating a New Group

  2. You can find this in the drop-down menu.
  3. Scroll down or use the search bar to find the user.[4]
  4. You can change your group name, icon, and permissions. This can also be changed later.
    • A group name can be up to 100 characters.
    • To add a group icon, tap the camera icon and select: Take Photo, Choose Photo, Emoji & Stickers, or Search Web.
    • Toggle on or off Disappearing messages.
    • To change group settings, tap Group permissions.
