Some Common Gen Z Slang and Their Meanings

Here are some common Gen Z slang and their meanings. Keep in mind that even though formal definitions for slang can offer a better understanding of their usage, often the jargon is also paired with hyperbole, context, or a specific attitude.

Crash out: To crash out is to have a fit as a result of being very upset.
Situationship: A situationship is an ambiguous and undefined relationship that is romantic in nature, though with no official titles. Many people consider being in a situationship to be a negative thing due to its unclear boundaries and potential indication for a lack of commitment.
Beige flag: Derivative of “green flag” and “red flag,” which are a positive trait in a person or a negative trait in a person respectively, a beige flag is simply a trait embodied by a person and is neither positive nor negative.
Opp: “Opp” is short for “opposition” or “opponents.” An opp is an enemy.
Lock in: To lock in is to be focused and concentrated on something. To be “locked in” is to be in a state of high motivation and/or high productivity.
