This wikiHow teaches you how to get around the Fortinet web filter using a proxy server. A proxy server is an internet-based network that can connect you to a blocked website by routing you through its own unblocked server. Proxy servers can also mask your IP address, allowing you to surf the web anonymously, though your administrator may be able to tell you were using a proxy server. Viewing websites through a proxy server is usually much slower than if you connect to them directly. They may also be missing some features.

   Go to https://whoer.net/webproxy in a web browser.

   • If the hide.me proxy server above isn't accessible, try vpnbook, or whoer.net. You can also search for a proxy server using Google.

   Type the URL of the blocked website in the bar. Most proxy websites have the URL bar in the middle of the page.

   Select a server location. Most proxy websites will have a drop-down menu near the URL bar that lets you select a proxy location from the US, Europe, or elsewhere. Choose the location that is the closest to you. Some proxy servers allow you to select a random server location.

   Click Go. Other proxy servers may say something like, "Visit anonymously", or "Surf", or something similar.

  When I go to the linked proxy site and Fortinet pops up blocking it as "proxy avoidance", what do I do?

  You need to go the proxy settings and uncheck the option for proxy avoidance to allow the sites to load. Steps will depend on the kind of browser (IE, Chrome, etc) you are using and platform, whether Windows, Mac or Linux.

  If your country blocks it, get a good VPN! VPNs can “change” the country that you’re in, unblocking websites that are blocked in your country, as long as the country you change to didn't block the same website.
