So babes, you looking round for how to speak like a Chavette? (We ain't ALL perfect, right?) Well, here you go! It's the best prezzie ever, innit!!!

  1. Also, try to find any of the 'Diary of a Chav' books by Grace Dent - They are a big help![1] [2]
  2. [3] Instead of saying 'how are you' to a friend say 'All right' (Should be pronounced Aw rate ) Also, instead of saying someone's name, call them 'babes' or 'bruv' (Works for BOTH genders!)

  3. This will help to get into the habit of saying it.
  4. Especially within a monologue : for example, "I was like... an' she was like.... an' 'e was like .... "
  5. Instead : "'ere you go !"[4]
  6. It's an invite to a meet, innit ![5]
  7. for example: "That were a well good lesson! Ms________ is a proper good teacher, like!" This will make you sound natural.
  8. This will make you look fake and stupid. Instead, try out one new word at a time.[6]
  9. Aitches are to be dropped (this has no chav status in North/Midlands, where it's normal). [7] But when saying the letter aitch, pronounce it "haitch" (ditto)
  10. Don't act like you're trying too hard!

Tips

Tips from our Readers

  • Don’t do this at work or at job interviews. You may not be taken seriously.
  • Use the word "fit" instead of "attractive." It works for both genders.
  • Use the word "minging" instead of "ugly" or "disgusting."

Warnings

  • People may not like the new way you speak. Only make the change if you have thick skin and can stick up for yourself!
  • Don't put anybody down! Always be nice, just say it in a different way!
  • Because the word "chav" is often used as an insult, be mindful of how associating certain behaviors with a "chavvy" personality may be perceived by others.
  • Swearing is proper chavvy, but it isn't pleasant. Don't use bad language! Especially around younger children.
