How to Make an Image Transparent on PC or Mac

This wikiHow teaches you how to make parts of an image transparent using a free web-based tool called Lunapic.

Steps

  1. Go to https://www.lunapic.com in a web browser. Lunapic is a free image editor you can use on Windows or macOS to make an image’s background transparent.
  2. It’s under the “Editing tools” header at the bottom of the screen.

  3. This opens your computer’s file browser.
  4. The image will now upload to Lunapic’s server.
  5. This replaces the color with a gray checkerboard pattern, which means that part will be transparent.
    • For example, if you have a white background and want it to be transparent instead, click anywhere on the white background to replace it with transparency.
    • Click any other colors to remove them as well.
  6. It’s the first link below the image. This will download the image to your computer.
    • Depending on your settings, you may have to choose a download location and/or name the file.
