How to Log in to WeChat

This wikiHow teaches you how to sign into your WeChat account on a computer, phone, or tablet. If you're using an Android, iPhone, or iPad, you can sign in with your phone number, username, or email address. If you're using a computer, you can access WeChat in a web browser or by downloading the Windows or macOS app, but you'll need to keep your phone handy to finish logging in online. Using a Phone or Tablet

   Open the WeChat app. It's the green icon with two overlapping chat bubble inside. You'll usually find it on the home screen (iPhone/iPad) or in the app drawer (Android).

   Tap Log In. It's at the bottom of the screen.

   Enter your phone number. You should already see your country's dialing code in the "Region" blank, so just enter your phone number into the provided blank.

   • If you don't know which phone number to enter, you can sign in with your username or email address. Click Log in via WeChat ID/Email/QQ ID, enter your login details, and then tap Log in to sign in.
   • If you don't remember any of your login info, tap Unable to Log in? at the bottom of the screen, then follow the on-screen instructions to recover info.

   Tap Next. It's the green button at the bottom of the screen.

   Tap Log in via SMS verification code. Choose this option if you want to sign in by having a sign-in code sent to your phone number.

   Tap Send next to the SMS Code field. A confirmation message will appear.

   Tap OK. WeChat will now send a login code to your phone number.

   • You may have to do a short activity to prove that you aren't a robot. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the puzzle, then tap Send again.

   Enter the verification code and tap Log In. Once the code is accepted, you'll be signed into WeChat.

Using a Computer

   Go to https://www.wechat.com in your web browser. This opens a screen with some app download options.

   • Make sure your phone or tablet with WeChat installed is nearby. You'll need it to validate your login.

   Install WeChat on your computer. This is optional, as you can also use a full-featured version of WeChat in your web browser. If you want to use the web version, skip to the next step. Otherwise, follow these steps to install the app:

   • Mac:
     • Open the App Store
       
       on your Mac. You'll find it on the Dock.
     • Type wechat into the "Search" bar and press ⏎ Return.
     • Click GET next to WeChat. It's the app with two overlapping chat bubbles (green and gray).
   • PC:
     • Click the Windows
       
       icon on the WeChat website.
     • Click Download. If the download doesn't start right away, click Save.
     • Press Ctrl+J to open your downloads.
     • Click the link that begins with "WeChat" and ends with ".exe."
     • Click Install WeChat.

   Open WeChat. To use the web version, click the www icon near the bottom-right corner of the WeChat homepage. If you installed the app, click WeChat on the Start menu (PC) or Launchpad (Mac). This will display a QR code on the screen.

   Open WeChat on your phone or tablet. It's the green icon with two overlapping white chat bubbles. You'll usually find it on the home screen or in the app drawer.

   Tap the Chats tab. It's at the bottom-left corner.

   Tap the plus + in the mobile app. It's at the top-right corner of the screen.

   Tap Scan. This opens a camera screen with a square at the center.

   Align the QR code on your computer in the camera viewfinder. The camera will automatically detect the code and direct you to a login screen in the mobile app.

   Tap Log In in the mobile app. This will sign you into WeChat on your computer.
