A top YouTube comment is a comment that has received the greatest number of likes on a video. It also can be a comment that the creator pinned to the top of their video's comment section. Though it may sound simple, getting your comment to trend and hit the top requires strategy, which will be outlined throughout this article.

Give the video and/or its creator some praise.
Make a joke, a pun, or reference a meme.
Supply more information or add a personal anecdote.

The video must be popular enough that it has at least a few hundred thousand views, but not so many that the video itself is no longer rising. You need to leave space for the video itself to grow.

If you especially liked or resonated with a video, write a sincere and thoughtful comment about why you like it or how it helped you. Other users may like the comment if they agree, and the creator may even reply or pin the comment.
Avoid being rude or offensive. If you've been watching this YouTube channel for a while, bring up an inside joke from a past video if it applies to the current video. Other long-time fans may find it funny and will interact with your comment.
A pun can become a massively popular comment, especially if it's clever or funny. Make a pun based on the video's title or something the YouTuber says in the video for the best results.
If something that happens in the YouTube video reminds you of a meme, make a comment about it! For the best chance at writing a top comment, reference a recent and/or topical meme, if possible. Avoid super old memes, because some users might not get the joke.
If the YouTube video is more informational than entertaining, you may be able to provide some additional information or anecdotes. For example, if a video is about visiting Japan and you live in Japan, you might comment some travel tips, places to go, or correct some myths that some people have about visiting your country.
While this isn't very subtle, you can ask for a thumbs up to get a top comment. The key is to add a reason for a reader to click the thumbs up button. You probably clicked on a link provided by Youtube to your comment. Check your URL, and if it's longer than usual, that's probably it. You can make any comment show as a top comment if you click on the time it was posted, shown beside the commenter's nickname.

Avoid asking for likes or stating what year you are watching the video as people usually find those comments annoying. My comments get pushed down to the bottom. Why does this happen, even if they get likes?

Although they appear invisible, dislikes can affect this. It could possibly be pushed to the bottom from dislikes. Sometimes newer comments make their way up to the top so people get a chance to see them.
