What does hmmm mean from a guy? Is it flirty?
So there's this guy that I've been texting and I feel like he's always replying back with "hmmm" or something similar. Idk what he means by it or if I should be worried. Is there something he's trying to tell me?

I used to get anxious when the guy I'm talking to would send me "hmmm" because I've personally used it when I'm uncertain about something or a little uncomfortable with something but haven't yet found the words to communicate why. When I asked him about it, he told me that it's just what he says when he's thinking! Nothing more to it. So I wouldn't worry too much about what it means, it could just be him letting you know that he's thinking.

Lowkey I use "hmmm" when I don't know what to say but I want it to look like I'm being thoughtful and stuff. When I send "hmm" I'm just hoping the other person will say some more things so I can reply to that instead. But idk maybe I'm just bad at socializing lol

How does he use "hmm"? Does he send "hmm" first and then send another message with more thoughts after? Then he's probably just using "hmm" as a way to show that he's thinking. If he sends "hmm" and then disappears he may be using it as a way to blow you off by technically responding to your text but not saying anything of substance.

It sounds like the "hmmm" responses could be a sign that he's unsure, thinking, or not fully engaged in the conversation. It might also indicate he's not sure how to respond, or he could be trying to keep the conversation going without offering much input. It's hard to say exactly what he's trying to communicate without more context, but if you feel unsure about it, it might be a good idea to directly ask him how he's feeling about your conversations or if there's something on his mind. Open communication can help clear up any confusion!

I typically see "hmm" used to communicate that someone is thinking about what to say next, but I've also seen it used in a suggestive context. If you're flirting hard over text and a guy hits you with "hmmm" he might be teasing you by making you wait for his response. It could be a really good sign that he's into you.

It's really going to depend on what you said to him first, but in my experience it's always meant that he's really thinking about something. Like if you asked him a question and he's not sure of the answer, he may send "hmm" to let you know that he's deep in thought and didn't want to leave you hanging.
There is a chance that they are sending you "hmm" because they don't know how to respond or they aren't sure if they agree. They may be looking for you to expand and tell them more before they give you a concrete answer.
Just give them a couple more minutes to respond or ask what they mean if you're really unsure, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing.
