Does anyone have things I should pack for my train trip to Kansas City?

When you're packing for a train, you do not want to be in a situation where your baggage is heavy and difficult to carry. A lot of times people don't realize the limited space for packing on a train, so you may not have room for multiple large suitcases.
So as far as what to pack, choose items that are versatile. I suggest wearing a lot of white or black and then accessorizing to incorporate colors so you don't feel like you're wearing the same thing over and over again.

Warm boots, sweaters, a good jacket, maybe even long johns! Train rides can feel long, so comfort is key. Definitely bring snacks and books for the ride. I’d also recommend a good pair of headphones, a travel pillow, and anything to keep you comfortable.

Besides the essentials like your luggage, travel documents, and toiletries, here are some things you can bring on a train trip to make it more enjoyable:

- Board games: pick smaller games or cards that fit on the train's tray table
- Books: bring a couple books depending on the length of your trip and how fast you read
- Snacks and drinks: most trains have dining cars, but you can save money if you pack your own snacks and resusable water bottle
- Charging cord and power bank: many trains have outlets in the seats, but if yours doesn't, you'll want a power bank to keep your phone and devices charged
- Headphones: trains can be loud, so uses headphones to listen to music or muffle the noise
- Comfy clothes: opt for looser clothes that are comfortable for long rides
- Travel pillow: bring a pillow to make your train seat more comfortable, especially if you want to nap
It really just depends on the length of your train ride and what you’re going to do when you’re there. December in KC can get quite cold. If you’re not used to the cold, like me (I’m from Orlando), then I would be sure to pack for as cold as 0°!
Traveling by train is SUCH an underrated way to travel, and I’m so glad you’re doing it. There are some amazing tours and excursions of the city; let me know if I can send you some ideas.
