Giratina, a legendary Ghost/Dragon Pokémon and the last member of the Creation Trio. It has very high stats, as well as a large and powerful moveset, making it an extremely valuable addition to any trainer's team.

  1. Giratina can be found at the end of the distortion world.

  2. Your chance of successfully catching a Pokémon rises once it has been weakened. Putting it to sleep (such as with moves like with Hypnosis or Spore) raises this chance even further.
    • Note: Unlike its counterparts, Dialga & Palkia, Giratina has an EXTREMELY low catch rate and will only last 30 turns in battle. Additionally, two of its moves sometimes raise ALL of its stats at once, making it progressively harder to catch.
    • Note: Giratina is part Ghost-Type, and thus is not affected False Swipe (a Normal-type moves that leaves the opponent with a minimum of 1 HP).
  3. You may use any Poké Ball you like here, though three in particular provide an additional advantage:
    • Quick Balls: Highest chance if thrown on the very first turn, though its success rate drops with each subsequent turn (works opposite to the Timer Ball).
    • Dusk Balls: Higher success rate at night and in caves.
    • Timer Balls: Success rate grows the longer the battle goes on (works opposite of the Quick Ball).

  1. If you have met the requirements, there will be an opening in the side.
  2. Go in the cave & keep going in one direction until Giratina is there. Here, it is level 70, has the moves Shadow Force, Earth-Power, Slash, & Heal-Block.
  3. Then, it's just a matter of about 40 dusk balls, or less if you're lucky.

Tips

  • Note that in Diamond & Pearl, for the opening to Spring Path to appear, one must first obtain the National Pokédex. This is done by seeing every Pokémon in Sinnoh, then showing your filled Pokédex to Professor Rowan.
  • The Origin Form
    • Although Giratina will no longer be in origin form in Turnback Cave, you can find an orb in the Distortion World that will change it back to Origin Forme if you let Giratina hold it.*

Warnings

  • Always bring an escape rope. Turnback Cave is very large, and you may get stuck.
  • There is no real danger in catching Giratina, though the HM Rock Climb is needed to traverse the cave to reach it. The HMs Defog & Rock Smash are not necessary but are recommended.
