  1. PSP ISOs are the disk images that PSP games use. Many websites let you download PSP ISOs. You can search PSP ISOs in Google to search for websites that have PSP ISOs for download. You can also use torrent files to download games.
    • Some websites include Romsgames, Romsfun, Free Roms, or Rom Hustler.
    • Warning: Many free game and ROM sites are notorious for containing viruses and malware. Make sure you have antivirus software and that it is up to date before downloading PSP ISO or ROMS on your computer. Run a virus scan after you download your games.
    • Warning: Downloading copyrighted games from a website or using torrent files may be illegal in some areas. Download games at your own risk.
    • Some games may come in the CHD format instead of ISO. These are smaller files, but they can only be played using an emulator. They cannot be played on the original PSP.
  2. Many download websites have a list of letters you can click to browse for games alphabetically. You can also use the search bar to search for a game by name.

  3. Once you choose a game download, click on the game title. Then click on the download links. You may be able to choose a specific download source or mirror; if so, click one and wait for the download to start.
    • Some games are split into 3-4 parts depending on the size. If a game is split, you need to download all parts.
    • Make sure you are clicking the actual download link and not a banner ad or something that could download a virus to your computer.

  1. PPSSPP is an emulator that allows you to play PSP games on your PC or mobile device. It is available for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, Linux, and Oculus Quest. Use one of the following steps to download and install PPSSPP:
    • Windows & Mac: Go to the PPSSPP download site and click the download link for your version of Windows or macOS. Open the installation file in your Downloads folder and follow the prompts to install PPSSPP.
    • Mobile: You can download PPSSPP from the Google Play Store on Android or the App Store on iPhone and iPad. You can also download an APK file to sideload PPSSPP on Android from the PPSSPP download site.
    • Linux: You can download PPSSPP from Flathub on Linux. Visit the Flathub website and learn how to install Flathub for your Linux distribution. Then go to the PPSSPP page on the Flathub website. Click the arrow icon next to “install” and copy the terminal command to install PPSSPP. Open the Terminal, paste the command, and press Enter.
    • Oculus/Meta Quest: You’ll need to enable developer mode on your Quest headset. Then you can download SideQuest to your PC or Mac. Connect your Oculus Quest to your computer and use SideQuest to install PPSSPP.
  2. You’ll want to create a folder to keep all your games. This can be anywhere on your computer or device. Use one of the following steps to create a folder:
    • PC, Mac & Linux: Use your computer’s file browser application (File Explorer on Windows or Finder on Mac) to navigate to the location you want to create the folder. Right-click and click New folder. Name the folder “PSP Games” or something similar.
    • Android: Open My Files (Samsung Galaxy) or Files by Google (all other Android devices). Open your Internal Storage and navigate to where you want to create a game folder. Tap the icon with three dots (⋮) in the upper-right corner. Tap Create folder or Add new folder. Enter a name for the folder.
    • iPhone & iPad: Open the Files app. Tap On my iPhone/iPad. Navigate to where you want to create a games folder. Tap the icon with three dots and tap New folder. Give the folder a name.
    • Oculus/Meta Quest: Connect your Oculus Quest to your PC via a USB cable and use the file browser application on your computer to access your Oculus Quest internal storage and create a game folder on the headset.
  3. If you’ve already downloaded some PSP games, copy them to your game folder using the file browser application on your computer. If you are using a mobile device, you can connect it to your computer using a USB cable. You can either drag and drop your game files, or select them, right-click, and click Copy or Cut. Open the game folder, right-click, and select Paste.
    • To select more than one folder, hold Ctrl (or Command on Mac) and click the files you want to select.
  4. Click the app icon in the Windows Start menu, or Applications folder on Mac, or tap the app icon on your Home screen or apps menu to open the app.
  5. To do so, click or tap Browse at the top, select your game folder, and click or tap Select folder. PPSSPP will scan this folder for games.
  6. Click Settings, and then click Graphics. It is recommended you set “Backend” to “Vulkan.” Then, you can enable Antialiasing (MSAA). Set Antialiasing (MSAA) to 8x at first, and if performance is affected, you can lower it. All other settings will depend on your device's hardware. Increase the render resolution to the highest level your PC can handle.[1]
    • If “Vulkan” isn’t available on your device, select “Direct3D 11” instead.
    • If you experience a lot of frame tearing, you can enable V-sync. However, this will introduce a slight input lag.
  7. To map the controls, click Settings > Controls > Control Mapping. If you are playing with a keyboard and mouse, you can select which buttons on the keyboard and mouse you want to map to the PSP controls. You can also use a controller. PPSSPP supports most controllers, including Xbox, PlayStation, and third-party controllers.
  8. When you want to play a game, open PPSSPP and click or tap Games at the top of the screen. Click or tap the game you want to play to launch it.[2]

PDF download Download Article
  1. Before you begin, make sure your PSP is running the latest firmware version 6.61. If your PSP can connect to the internet, you can update it over the internet by selecting System Update in the Settings menu. Otherwise, use the following steps to update your PSP:
    • Go to revive.today/psp/firmware in a web browser.
    • Right-click Sony Download below "6.61 Firmware" and click Save Link As, and click Save (you can use 6.60 Firmware).
    • Insert a Memory Stick Duo in your PSP.
      • If you are using a new memory stick with your PSP, select the Settings menu in your PSP, and then select System Settings. Select Format Memory Stick to format the memory card for use with your PSP. This will erase any data you have on your memory stick. Back up any data you want to keep.
    • Connect your PSP to your computer with a USB, or insert your Memory Stick Duo.
    • Open the "PSP" folder on your PSP or Memory Stick Duo.
    • Open the "GAME" folder in the PSP folder.
    • Create a new folder called "UPDATE".
    • Drag and drop the "EBOOT.PBP" file you just downloaded into the "UPDATE" folder.
    • Disconnect your PSP from your computer or reinsert the Memory Stick Duo.
    • Turn on your PSP.
    • Select the Game menu on your PSP's home screen (XMB).
    • Select the "Memory Stick" option in the Game menu.
    • Select the Update File.
  2. In addition to having the latest firmware, you also need to download custom firmware for PSP firmware 6.61. Use the following steps to install custom firmware on your PSP:
    • Go to this website.
      • You can also search for PSP 6.61 cfw in Google.
      • Warning: If you are using Firmware version 6.60, you need to download "PSP 6.60 PRO-C2 custom firmware" instead, or you will break your PSP. You can download it from the same webpage above.
    • Scroll down and click the link that says Download the PSP 6.61 PRO-C2 custom firmware.
    • Connect your PSP to your computer with a USB, or insert your Memory Stick Duo in your card reader or USB adapter.
    • Open the "PSP" folder on your PSP or Memory Stick Duo using File Explorer or Finder on your PC.
    • Open the "GAME" folder in the PSP folder.
    • Unzip the contents of the "PSP 6.61 Pro" custom firmware folder and copy the contents to the Game folder.
    • Disconnect your PSP or reinsert your Memory Stick Duo into your PSP.
    • Turn on your PSP.
    • Select the Game menu on your PSP's home screen (XMB).
    • Run the "Pro Update" application in the Game menu.
    • Press “X” to install the custom firmware.
    • Restart your PSP.
  3. You will need to do this each time you restart your PSP to reactivate the custom firmware.
    • If you are using a PSP 1000 or 2000 model, you can run the CIPL Flasher in the Game menu to permanently install custom firmware. However, if you do this on a 3000 model or PSP Go, it may permanently break your system. Use this at your own risk.
      • The PSP 1000 is thicker than all other models and has no video out port. The PSP 2000 has a video out port and a Home button. The PSP 3000 model has the Home button replaced with a PS button. The PSP Go has buttons that slide out from the bottom and no UMD disk insert.

Transferring Games to the PSP

PDF download Download Article
  1. Connect your PSP to your computer using the USB cable, or connect your Memory Stick Duo to your computer using a card reader drive, or using a USB adapter.[3]
  2. This is the folder you will copy your PSP games to. You will need to create this folder in the root of your Memory Stick Pro.
  3. When you download PSP games, they are usually downloaded in RAR format. The RAR file contains the ISO files for your games. You need a program such as WinRAR to extract RAR files.
  4. When you have finished extracting the ISO files, copy the files to the ISO folder on your PSP or Memory Stick Duo.
    • If the game has many ISO files, you will need to copy all of them to the ISO folder.
    • If you are downloading PS1 games, you will need to copy those files to the "PSP" folder on your PSP or Memory Stick Duo. Not the ISO folder.
  5. After you have finished, copy the ISO files to the ISO folder, disconnect your PSP from your computer, or eject your Memory Stick Duo and reinsert it into your PSP.[4]
  6. Use the XMB to select the "Game" menu.
  7. This folder contains all the games you have installed on your Memory Stick.
  8. If the game is installed correctly, it should appear in your list of games. You can open it the same as you would for any game on your PSP.[5]

This depends on whether you are buying an original game or downloading a game from any website that provides PSP ROMs. If you are buying original, simply complete your purchase on the PSN (which you can connect via your PSP device) and then the game will be downloaded and installed to your device automatically. if you are downloading from a website like Emuparadise, just follow the instruction provided in the website.

Article SummaryX

To download a PSP game, start by installing a custom firmware, like PSP 6.61, if you haven’t already, so you can run virtual discs. Once you’ve installed a custom firmware, go to a PSP ISO website on your computer, like Free Roms or Roms Mania. Then, search for a specific game or browse the website’s catalogue for one you like and download it. If the file is an RAR, extract the files using a program like WinZip to get the raw ISO. Hook up your PSP to your computer and copy the file to a folder called “ISO” on your PSP to make your game playable.
