In the world of Pokémon GO, Individual Values (IVs) are secretive stats that indicate how much your Pokémon’s stats will rise when you power them up with candy and stardust. Knowing which of your Pokémon has the most potential in raids and gym battles can be the difference between success and defeat—and we’re here to help. Keep reading to learn how you can appraise your Pokémon and see if they have 100% IV levels using both the app and other external resources before your next big endeavor on Pokémon GO.

Things You Should Know

Talk to your Team Leader in the Pokémon GO app to get a sense of your Pokémon’s IVs.
Getting a 3-star ranking with a red emblem means that your Pokémon’s IVs are perfect, while 3 stars with a gold emblem indicate IVs that are around 82% to 98% perfect.

The Pokéball icon is centered at the bottom of the screen, and the Pokémon option is in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Select the Pokémon you’d like to check the IVs of. If you’re preparing for a gym battle or raid, it may help to sort your Pokémon by Combat Power (CP).
- Tap the circular filter button in the bottom right corner of the screen to inspect the different filtering options.

You can find this in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Tap the “Appraise” option. You can find it between the “Favorite” and “Transfer” options. This invites your Team Leader (Candela for Team Valor, Blanche for Team Mystic, or Spark for Team Instinct) to inspect your Pokémon’s IVs.
- Unhappy with your current team? You can switch teams once per year with a Team Medallion.

Review the rating your Team Leader gives your Pokémon. Your Team Leader rates your Pokémon’s IVs with a 0- to 3-star system. Here’s a rundown of what each rating means in terms of your Pokémon’s IVs:
- 3 stars with red emblem: 100% perfect IVs
- 3 stars with gold emblem: 82.2% to 98% perfect IVs
- 2 stars: 66.7% to 80% perfect IVs
- 1 star: 51% to 63.4% perfect IVs
- 0 stars: less than 50% perfect IVs^{[1]

Poké Genie Poké Genie is a handy app that gives you info on your Pokémon’s IVs based on screenshots. Simply enter your current trainer level and upload a screenshot of one of your Pokémon to the app to instantly get in-depth insights about that Pokémon’s IVs.
- Download the app in the App Store or on the Google Play Store.

Calcy IV Calcy IV has a built-in screen recording function that records any onscreen Pokémon profiles and analyzes their IVs within the Calcy IV app. From there, you can see the quality of the IVs while also taking an in-depth look at its moves and PvP prospects.
- Download Calcy IV in the App Store or on the Google Play Store.
The Pokémon GO Info site is a desktop IV calculator that invites you to enter your Pokémon’s species, CP, and stat levels as shown on the Appraisal screen. From there, the calculator gives you a little more detail about your Pokémon.

How Stats Work in Pokémon GO

Pokémon only have 3 total stats. Unlike traditional Pokémon games, where Pokémon have 6 unique IVs, the Pokémon you catch in Pokémon GO only have 3 total stats: Attack, Defense, and HP. All 3 stats are rated by your Team Leader when you hit the “Appraise” option in your game.
- Leveling up your Pokémon is a great way to make your Pokémon stronger, but you’ll need to save up plenty of Stardust beforehand.
A Pokémon with perfect IVs will have around 45 total for their IV stats, while Pokémon with lower-quality IVs will net a lower score. The star ranking system lets you know how high quality the Pokémon’s IVs and stats are overall.
