- Enter your network password.

Select Check for Updates. You might need to select Yes to continue. If there's an update available, it will download automatically.
- Leave your TV alone while it downloads the new update. Don't turn it off or open other apps.

Updating via USB

Download the updated firmware for your TV. If your Vizio TV is not connected to the internet, or you don't currently have internet access, you can update your TV using a USB drive. You'll just need to download the updated firmware on your computer, save it to a USB drive, and use the drive to flash your Vizio TV to the latest version. Follow these steps to download the updated firmware:
- First, you'll need your Vizio TV's serial number, which you can find in one of these locations:
  - On the back of the TV, printed on a sticker.
  - Using your TV's menus: Settings/All Settings/Help > Admin & Privacy/System Information/TV information, next to "TV SN".
  - In the Vizio app: Tap the right arrow next to your TV's name, tap the info icon (it's a circled "i"), and find the serial number.^{[3]

- Go to Vizio's Firmware Search site in any web browser.
- Enter your serial number and click Get Firmware Data.
  - If no firmware update is found, your TV may be too old to update.
- Click click here to be taken to the firmware download page for your model.
- Click Click Here to Download the Most Current Firmware Version and follow the on-screen instructions to download.

Extract the .zip file to a USB drive. Inside the file you downloaded, there are two files that need to be saved to a USB drive. Vizio recommends that you use a 2 GB flash drive formatted in the FAT format.^{[4]

- On Windows, right-click the ZIP file you downloaded, select Extract All, click Browse, then select your USB flash drive. Click the Extract button to extract the files to the drive.
- On a Mac, double-click the ZIP file to extract it, then drag the extracted files over to your USB drive in Finder.

Factory reset the TV. To do this, press the "Menu" button on your remote and select Admin & Privacy > Reset to factory settings.
- If you have an older TV, you might need to press System or All Settings first.

Insert the USB drive once the TV enters setup mode. Don't plug in the USB before the TV is ready. Once you plug in the drive, you'll see a banner across the top of your screen that says the TV is installing the software.
- Your Vizio TV will turn off and back on again and display a progress bar. Once the progress bar is full, the TV will restart again.
Press the "Menu" button on your remote and go to System > System Information. The version next to "Version" (not "Cast Version") should match the updated version on Vizio's support site.

Can an older Vizio TV be updated? If your Vizio TV is too old to connect to the internet, you can update TV manually using a USB flash drive, as long as a firmware update is available.
- If your Vizio TV is too old to update (which may be the case for Vizio TVs running VIA software), your best option is to upgrade your TV, or connect a streaming device such as a Roku, Apple TV, or Chromecast to access more modern features.

What can I do if I can't update? There are a few things you can try to troubleshoot this issue:

- Check your internet connection. Make sure your internet connection is working and that your TV is connected. You may need to restart your router.
- Check Vizio's servers. If Vizio is experiencing issues with their servers, you will be unable to download and install the update.
- Perform a factory reset.
  - If you can still use the TV but it won't update, go to Menu > Admin & Privacy > Reset to Factory Settings > Enter your PIN (if prompted) > Reset to reset it to its factory defaults.
  - If you can't use the TV, you need to power cycle it first before you can reset it. First, make sure everything is unplugged, then disconnect the TV from power. While disconnected, press and hold the Power button on the TV for 10 seconds, then wait at least 5 minutes before plugging the power back in. You should be able to factory reset the TV from the menu after powering it back on.

How many years should a Vizio TV last? As long as it's properly maintained, a Vizio LED/LCD TV should last you at least 7-10 years.
- Extend the life of your Vizio TV by keeping it clean and protecting it from humidity.
TVs older than 2013 might be too old for the Netflix TV app to work.
