Instagram makes hiding tagged photos from your profile easy, but figuring out how to unhide them can take a little digging. While you cannot unhide multiple tagged photos at a time, you can quickly unhide each individual photo as long as you remember who posted it. This wikiHow article will teach you how to unhide tagged photos on your Instagram profile, how to hide tagged photos you don't want on your profile, teach you a shortcut for finding those hidden photos in the future, and answer your questions about tagged photos on Instagram.
Quick Steps to Unhide a Tagged Photo
- Go to the Instagram profile of the person who tagged you.
- Tap the photo you hid.
- Tap the three dots at the top-right.
- Select Post Options or Tag Options.
- Tap Show On My Profile.
Steps
How to Unhide Tagged Photos
-
Go to the profile of the person who posted the photo. As you may have figured by now, Instagram does not make it very easy to unhide tagged photos–once you hide a photo, the only way to find it again is to go to the profile of the person who originally posted it. You can do this by clicking the magnifying glass icon towards the bottom left of the screen, then using the Search bar to search for their name. Once you find the right profile, tap it to see their photos.[1]
- While there's no easy way to view the tagged photos you hid, we have come up with a workaround for next time you want to hide a photo you're tagged in.
- If you hid the photo recently, it should be near the top of the person's profile.
-
Tap the hidden photo. If you are on the poster’s profile, tap the preview of the photo you currently have hidden. If you are scrolling through your notifications, tap the square preview of the photo on the right side of the screen.Advertisement
-
Press the three dots in the top-right. This will open up a menu with several different options for the post.[2]
- Alternatively, tap your tag in the photo and select Show On My Profile.
-
Tap Tag Options (Android) or Post Options (iPhone/iPad}}. A new menu will appear.
-
Select Show On My Profile. To check that the post has successfully been unhidden, tap your profile picture in the bottom right and drag down to refresh. Then, tap the icon of a person in a box located in the middle of the screen and look for the post.
Manage Your Tag Settings on Instagram
-
Tap your profile photo at the bottom-right corner of Instagram. If you want to limit who can tag you in posts, you can manually approve tags instead of allowing them to appear on your profile instantly. You can also limit who can tag you on Instagram, and block tags altogether.
-
Tap the menu icon. It's the three-line icon at the top right.[3]
-
Tap Tags and mentions. It's under "How others can interact with you." You may have to scroll down a little to find it.
-
Choose who can tag you. If you don't want to allow people to tag you in photos and reels at all, you can select Don't allow tags. Otherwise, you can choose Allow tags from everyone or Allow tags from people you follow.
-
Toggle on "Manually approve tags" if needed. If you want to approve photos you're tagged in before they appear on your profile, you can toggle on this feature.
-
Approve or reject tags. Now, when someone tags you in an Instagram photo or video, you can approve or reject the tag.
- Tap the notification of the new tag to view the post.
- Tap your username.
- Tap next to "Show in Profile."[4]
How to Hide a Photo You're Tagged In
-
Open your tagged photos. To get there, just tap the icon of a tag with a person inside at the top of your profile grid.
-
Tap the photo you want to hide. This opens the photo in full view.
- If you might want to unhide the photo in the future, just tap the bookmark icon below the bottom-right corner to save it to your bookmarks. This way, you won't have to search through someone's profile to find it again.
- To hide multiple photos at once, tap Select at the top-right, tap the photos you want to hide, and then tap Hide at the bottom-left.
-
Tap the three dots and select Tag Options (Android) or Post options (iPhone/iPad). You'll see the three dots at the top-right corner.
-
Tap Hide from my profile. The photo is now hidden from your profile.
- Even though you hid the photo from your profile, you are still tagged in the photo. If you want to untag yourself completely, tap Remove me from post instead.
