Need to get inside your PS5? If you need to clean out some excess dust or check your console's internal components, you'll need to remove the cover. Here's how to take the cover off your PlayStation 5 Slim, CFI-2000, or CFI-1000 model groups.

Taking off PlayStation 5 Covers

Turn off your PlayStation 5 and remove all connected wires before beginning. Place the console down with the disk slot and power button facing away from you. Gently lift the cover away from the console to remove it. To put it back on, align the four cover clips and click them into place.

  1. Power off your PS5 completely and remove all wires. This includes the AC power cord and any attached HDMI cables.
    • Important: When taking your PlayStation 5 apart, keep small parts away from small children. Let your console power off and cool completely to prevent burns. Avoid pinching your fingers in the gaps when working with the parts.[1]
  2. Cover the surface with a soft cloth to prevent damage.
    • The front of the console with the disk slot and power button should be facing away from you.

  3. These are the attachments that hold your PS5 when it's placed horizontally.
  4. Use two thumbs if you're able to. It should detach from four clips.
  5. Align the four clips on the cover to the four holes on the console. Push gently until it clicks into place.
    • Make sure you attach the covers correctly. If it's installed incorrectly, your console may overheat.

    • To reattach the top cover, slide it on from right to left, until you hear a click.
  5. With this PlayStation 5 model, you can remove the top or bottom cover. To remove the bottom cover, do the following:
    • Place the console so the PS logo faces down and the power button faces towards you.
    • Gently grab the top-left corner of the cover.
    • Lift it up and towards the right to remove the cover.
    • To reattach the bottom cover, slide it on from right to left, until you hear a click.
  6. Gently press it into place.
    • Once attached, you can reconnect the AC power cord and cables, and start using your PlayStation 5 again.
