If you notice your Spectrum router blinking blue and website load times have increased, then it may not be connected to the Internet. Luckily, router issues are easy to troubleshoot at home or with Spectrum’s help. Keep reading, and we’ll walk you through what the light means and the best ways to fix the issue. We’ll also cover the other light colors to look for and how to fix a blinking modem.

Spectrum Router Blinking Blue Troubleshooting

If your Spectrum router blinks blue, it’s trying to connect to the Internet but doesn’t have service. Check the cables connecting to your modem and wall for damage. Otherwise, restart your modem and/or router so it reconnects to the Internet.

   Your router is trying to connect to the Internet. When a Spectrum router slowly blinks blue and white, it still puts out a Wi-Fi signal but doesn’t provide a connection to the Internet. Your router will continue blinking until it establishes a connection or detects no Internet available.

   The router is booting up after being turned off. If you recently shut off or restarted your router, the blue light quickly flashes on and off while it turns back on. Once it finishes the boot cycle, the blue light will pulse slower as it looks for an Internet connection.

   Check for outages on the Spectrum support page. If there’s an outage or scheduled maintenance in your area, then you’ll lose Internet connection, but your router signal will still be full strength.

   • When you reach the support page, click on the Check Outages button to open the virtual chat assistant.
   • Select Am I in an outage? from the chat options.
   • Provide your email or phone number to sign in.
   • Enter your ZIP code and check the outage information in the reply.

   Inspect the cable connections from your router to your modem. Look at the back of your router where the ethernet cord plugs in. Make sure it has a firm connection and doesn’t feel loose. Check the other end of the cord connected to your modem as well.

   • If the cable looks frayed or split, or if it has a loose fit, use a new ethernet cord instead.

   Disconnect devices from your wifi network. If you have a lot of wireless devices connected to your router, it may be overloaded and temporarily lose Internet service. Disconnect any devices you aren’t using and see if your router starts working properly again.

   Try connecting directly to the modem to check your Internet status. To determine if your router is causing the problem, plug an ethernet cord into a laptop or computer and connect it to an open port on the back of your modem. If your device connects to the Internet without a problem, the router is the culprit.

   • If your device still doesn’t connect, there may be an issue with your Spectrum service or the modem.

   Restart your router. If your router has a button on the back, hold it down for about 10 seconds to cycle the power. Otherwise, unplug it from the wall for 1-2 minutes before plugging it back in. Give your router a few minutes to reboot and re-establish an Internet connection.

   • Holding the button down for 15 seconds or longer resets the Spectrum router to factory settings. If you’re still having issues, try a full reset. You’ll just have to rename your network and create a password.

   Reset the modem and router. If your modem isn’t connecting to the Internet, resetting your entire network usually does the trick. Resetting only takes a few minutes, so you’ll be back online shortly.

   • Unplug the power cord from the back of your modem.
   • Disconnect the power cord from your router.
   • Wait at least 30 seconds.
   • Reconnect the modem and let it power on until the lights turn solid.
   • Plug in your router and wait 2 minutes.
   • Check your device for a wireless connection.

   Contact Spectrum if you’re still having issues. If nothing is working to fix your router, use the My Spectrum app to talk to a virtual assistant for more troubleshooting information. Alternatively, you can contact a customer service representative and speak to them directly to troubleshoot the issue.

   • Spectrum may walk you through different fixes, or if nothing else works, replace your router.

   Solid blue: connected to the Internet When the blue light stays on, you have a steady Internet connection and can use your wireless devices as normal.

   Red pulsing: no Internet connection If the red light slowly turns on and off, your router isn’t receiving any Internet service from your modem. There may be a service outage or something wrong with your modem connection.

   • Check the ethernet cable connecting the devices together for any damage or looseness.
   • Look where the modem plugs into the wall and make sure the connection is secure.
   • Try restarting your modem and router.

   Red and blue alternating: firmware update Leave your router alone and plugged in during the update. Firmware updates may take up to 10 minutes, but usually you’ll be back online shortly.

   Inspect the coaxial cable connection. Look where the thick coaxial cable connects to the back of your modem and remove it. Make sure the metal pin inside is straight and clean before screwing it back on. Then, check the other end of the cord plugged into your wall.

   Restart the modem. If the modem lights are flashing and your Internet service is working properly, a reset may solve the issue. Unplug your modem first, followed by your router. Wait about 30 seconds before plugging your modem back in, and let the lights turn solid. Then, connect your router again.
