How to Know If You Need Glasses

If you’re asking yourself, “Do I need glasses?” you’re likely experiencing one of many symptoms. Believe it or not, having bad eyesight isn’t the only sign that you may need glasses. Here are other signs that you might need to get your eyes checked:

  • Squinting. Squinting at your phone or computer screen may seem instinctual, but it could actually be a sign that you can’t really see that well.
  • Blurry vision. If you’re having trouble focusing on things for long periods of time, it might be because you have nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism.
  • Trouble seeing at night. If you’re experiencing night blindness or have a hard time seeing in the dark/dim light, it’s likely because you’re dealing with nearsightedness, cataracts, or tunnel vision.
  • Eye strain. Pain and fatigue in your eyes may be a sign that your eyes are working too hard to see.
  • Frequent headaches. Abnormally frequent headaches could indicate that your eyes are straining to see. These are often called “ocular migraines” and are paired with auras.
  • Seeing double. Seeing two of one thing is a common sign that you need glasses. This is known as “double vision.”

What do you do if you experience any of these symptoms? Talk to your optometrist or eye doctor. It’s important to get your eyes checked at least once a year. If you experience any of the above symptoms regularly, reach out to your doctor for a painless eye exam.
