If you need more than the 280 character limit (140 characters in Japanese, Korean and Chinese) on X, formerly known as Twitter, there are a few ways to bypass this. You can use a tweet thread to send multiple tweets at the same time, upload a screenshot, or subscribe to X Premium. Here's how to post a tweet longer than 280 characters

Type out your entire tweet. You can use a word processor on your computer or a note taking app on your phone, but any text field will do.
- This method involves breaking up your tweets into several successively numbered tweets so that each portion of the tweet is within the 280-character limit. X users commonly do this when creating long threads, so readers will know how many tweets make up the completed post.

Start a new tweet on X. It's easier to make a long thread using a computer, but you can still make one on the mobile app. You'll just need to swap back and forth between apps often.
- If you're tweeting at a user, type out their handle.

280 characters is about 3 long sentences or 4-5 short sentences.

Paste the text that you copied into the tweet field. If you go over the character limit, remove a few words or sentences.
- Be sure to account for the counter. For example, if this is the first post out of five, you would add: (1/5) at the end of the first tweet.
Copy roughly the same amount of text as before.
This is by the Post button. This will create a new field for a second tweet that is attached to the first one. This is how you create a thread on X.
Be sure to add the next counter. For example, since this is the second post out of five, you would add: (2/5) at the end of the second tweet.

Repeat the process until you've copy and pasted the entire tweet. Return to the full-length tweet, copy more sentences, select + to create a new post in the thread, and then paste it there.
- Be sure to add counters at the end of each tweet so your audience knows the order of your tweets and how much left there is to read.
This will post your long tweet as a thread all in one go without posting them individually.

Type your tweet in a note app or word processor. You can use any app or application as long as you can see the text in full.
- This method involves typing out the content, taking a screenshot, and attaching the image onto the tweet.

Take a screenshot of your text. This process will vary depending on your device.
- iPhone and iPad: Press the Side button and Volume Up button at the same time. If you have a Home button, press the Home button and Side button at the same time.
- Android: Press Power and Volume Down at the same time.
- Windows: Press Win + PrintScreen.
- Mac: Press Command + Shift + 3
- Chromebook: Press Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows
- If needed, crop the screenshot so it only includes your text.
You can use the X website or X mobile app.

Upload the screenshot. To do this, select the picture icon. Then, select the screenshot from your device. Select Post to post the tweet.
- If needed, you can add some text in the body of the tweet. If you're tweeting at a user, type out their handle.
