The phrase “Me hoy minoy” is all over social media—but what does it mean? If you’re confused, don’t worry. It actually means nothing, as it’s a gibberish phrase from an old episode of Spongebob Squarepants. That hasn’t stopped people from making memes about it, though. Keep reading to learn the origins of the phrase and the many funny memes that it’s spawned.

Me Hoy Minoy Meaning

"Me hoy minoy" is a nonsense phrase from the children’s cartoon Spongebob Squarepants. DoodleBob, an evil pencil drawing that comes to life, says the phrase along with other gibberish. Because it sounds silly and random, “me hoy minoy” has become a meme on TikTok.

  1. In season two, episode 14, “Frankendoodle,” Spongebob finds a magic pencil that brings drawings to life. He draws a character named DoodleBob, but the drawing begins terrorizing Spongebob and his friends and fights for the magic pencil. DoodleBob can’t speak, but says variations of the phrase “me hoy minoy” throughout the episode.[2]
    • DoodleBob appears again in season 11, episode 14, “Doodle Dimension.”[3] He’s also an antagonist in the spin-off video game “Drawn to Life: Spongebob SquarePants Edition.”
  2. Early memes would use DoodleBob as a reaction image or insert his catchphrase, “Mehoyminoy” (with or without spaces), into meme videos and social media posts. Other memes insinuate that the phrase “Me hoy minoy” is profound and deep using emotional reaction images.[4]
