To fix a Discord session not starting, check your internet connection. Close Discord fully, and then open it again. If needed, right-click the Discord client and select Run as administrator.
Steps
Troubleshooting Discord
-
Force-close Discord and open it again. To force-close Discord, open the system tray in the bottom-right corner by clicking the up arrow. Right-click the Discord icon and click Quit Discord. Then, open Discord again.
- You may need to repeat this method a few times.
- If you close Discord from the taskbar, you may just be minimizing it. Be sure to close it fully from the system tray or the Task Manager.
-

-
Check your Wi-Fi network. If Discord is stuck on Starting… you may have an unstable connection. Check your network, and if needed, troubleshoot your connection.
-
Flush the DNS server. This can help connection issues on your end. Do the following:

- Type ipconfig /flushdns.
- Press Enter.
-
Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus. If you downloaded a new antivirus software recently, or if you updated your security settings, you may have accidentally blocked Discord.
- Once disabled, try opening Discord again.
-
Press Ctrl+R. This is the keyboard shortcut to reload pages or programs. Make sure Discord is selected as the main window, and then press the keyboard shortcut to refresh and reload Discord.
