Did your iPhone charging port suddenly stop working? Before you try to send it in for repairs, there are a few fixes you can try at home. If you determine the charging port itself is broken, you can still charge your iPhone wirelessly using a Qi-certified charger. Here's what to do when your iPhone charging port is not working, including an expert tip from consumer technology expert Mitch Harris.

Fixing the Charging Port on an iPhone

If the iPhone charging port is not working, check the port for visible signs of debris. If you see dirt, use a dry, soft-bristled brush to gently clean it. You should also use an Apple-certified cable and charging block. If the charging port is broken, you can wirelessly charge your iPhone with a Qi-certified charger.

Clean the charging port. Make sure to turn off your iPhone completely before cleaning. Use a dry, soft-bristled brush to gently brush any debris out of the charging port.
- For stubborn debris, use a sharp, pointed object such as a toothpick to gently scrape it from the port's walls.

Try a different cable. It's possible your cable may be damaged or incompatible with your device. Check the cable for any visible damage.^{[2]

Try a new power source. If you're using the standard iPhone charging block, try plugging it into a different outlet.
