First, try to identify any patterns associated with your zoning out. Are there specific things that trigger it? Is there something you frequently think about? Does it happen at a particular time of the day? Once you identify patterns with your zoning out, you can set preventative measures to disrupt those patterns. For example, if seeing your phone screen light up when you get a notification is a trigger, you can let your friends and family know that you’ll be working for the next few hours and put your phone in a separate room.

If you tend to zone out at a particular time of day, set aside that time for physical activity and plan to work around that time. If you find that your difficulty concentrating is negatively affecting your ability to function at work or home, consider speaking to your doctor about treatment.

As soon as you notice that you're staring too long, look away and redirect your attention to something else. You could play a game on your phone or keep a book with you so you have something else to focus on. Try not to make prolonged eye contact with a stranger for too long so it doesn't feel as awkward.

If you find yourself zoning out during conversations, try practicing active listening while other people are talking. Face the person who's talking and look them in the eyes every now and then, nod along with what they're saying, and ask them follow-up questions to stay involved and engaged in the conversation.

Hi again Amy! I do that too sometimes too when I just stare. :o

I once found myself staring at a boy in my class (because he was in front of me). I know him a bit, but I was just... staring at him, So he mouthed, "Why are you staring at me?!" And It was SO embarrassing! So I just turned my head and looked the other direction. Like, how is it weird to stare at someone if they're in front of you??

Now I just think that "if they catch me staring at them, it would be very awkward" So that kinda helps! :)
