Hey there! I’m a first-year middle school teacher and I’ve had a nightmarish time trying to figure out what these kids are talking about…can I just get a breakdown on the meaning of all the popular terms associated with “brainrot?”

Brainrot often means confusing or mind blowing. Exp:
teen talk: "Don't look at that, you'll get brainrot."
Normal talk: "don't look at that, it's very confusing/shocking, it'll make your head hurt. "

I'm not mentioning my Gen, but I got all these. They're just abbreviations. And yeah, we used some of the same slang. Still means the same thing as it did then. A few are new, or are derived from colloquialisms not all US areas are familiar with. But for the most part, there ain't a whole lot new under the sun. Nobody will actually be talking like this in any way, shape, or form in about 5 years, and it'll all only become meme-worthy for busting on folks. Or turned into a song for posterity, like ValSpeak did in "Valley Girl" by Moon Unit Zappa, Frank's daughter back in the '80's. Righteous bop, for sure.
