Click Settings. This is in the drop-down menu. A new page will open.
-
Toggle off "App updates". Click the switch on the right. The switch will turn from blue (on) to grey (off). The color of the switch might be different on your PC. Automatic app updates are now disabled for the Microsoft Store.
- If the switch is off, updates for Windows apps are already disabled, so you don't have to change anything.

Disabling Windows System Updates
-
Open your Settings. Click the Start menu, and then click the cog icon. The Settings window will open.
- While you can't permanently disable system updates, you can pause them for a certain amount of time. This is helpful if you need to use your device and don't have time to update it.
-
Click Update & Security. You can find this towards the bottom of the window.
-
Click Advanced options. This is below View update history.
-
Click the "Select date" drop-down menu. You can find this underneath the Pause updates header.
-
Select a date to resume updates. You can select a date about a month away. However, it's recommended to keep automatic updates enabled as it provides important security fixes for Windows.
-
Resume updates (optional). If you need to undo the pause, open the Windows Update page again, and then click Resume updates at the top.
- Windows will immediately look for new updates to download.
Deleting Microsoft Store Apps
-
Open your Settings. Click the Start menu, and then click the cog icon. The Settings window will open.
- If you keep receiving automatic updates, you can uninstall the app instead.
-
Click Apps. This option should be towards the top.
-
Click Apps & features. You can find this in the left panel.
-
Click the app you want to uninstall. More options will appear.
-
Click Uninstall. This is on the right side.
-
Click Uninstall again. The app will be removed from your device.
- Alternatively, right-click the app in the Start menu and click Uninstall.
