Since your Google Play account is automatically linked to your Google account, you cannot delete or remove it without deleting your entire Google account. You can, however, remove your Google account from an Android if all you are trying to do is prevent your Google Play account from being used from that device. This wikiHow guide shows you how to delete your Google Play account, as well as how to remove it from an Android device.
Quick Steps
- Go to myaccount.google.com/delete-services-or-account.
- Log in to the Google account you want to delete.
- Click Delete your account.
- Enter your password, check both boxes, and click Delete Account.
Steps
-
Make a backup of all your Google data. Since your Google Play account is tied to your Google account, the only way to delete a Google Play account is to delete everything. This means that your contacts, game data, emails, files, purchased content, and anything in your Drive will be deleted. To avoid data loss, you can use Google Takeout to back up your data.
- Navigate to https://takeout.google.com and sign into the Google account that you're deleting. You can choose what data to download, like photos, videos, and stuff you've purchased through Google Play, like books and games.
- Google Takeout will send you a link to a file that you can download when the backup is complete.
-
Navigate to https://myaccount.google.com/delete-services-or-account. If there are apps within Google Play that you want to delete, see if you can delete them here first. You might be able to delete the service or game data individually without deleting your entire Google account.[1]Advertisement
-
Click Delete your account. Make sure the right account is active in the drop-down menu on the left side of your screen and enter your password.
- Read what will happen when you delete your account, including what data you'll lose access to.
- Note that if you use this Google account information to log into other places, you won't be able to continue using that method anymore.
- Check both the boxes and click Delete Account.
-
Navigate to your phone settings. If you don't want a specific Google account to be associated with the Play Store on this particular Android, you can use these steps to remove it. Pull down from the top of the home screen, then tap the settings cog to open your settings.
-
Tap the Accounts option. It may have a slightly different name depending on the device.
-
Tap the Google account you want to remove from this Android. There may be multiple accounts listed here, so choose the email address associated with the account that you wish to remove. Make sure it is a Google account—it will say Google underneath and will be indicated by a colorful G.
-
Tap Remove Account and confirm. You may need to enter the device’s PIN or password. Once finished, all Google services associated with that email address will be removed from the device.
