Add color to your Facebook messenger chats

You can customize your Facebook Messenger conversations by giving them custom colors and swapping out the Like button for a different emoji. These changes will take effect immediately and apply to everyone in the conversation. Here's how to change chat colors and emoji in Facebook Messenger using your iPhone, iPad, Android, or computer.

  2. You'll see your friends' chats listed from most recent to least.
    • If you aren't already on the Chats tab, tap it to navigate there now.

  5. You can tap a certain color or gradient from the selection.
  6. This will change your chat theme.
    • If you want to change the theme back to the default color, select the Classic option. This is the Facebook-blue circle.

  1. Go to https://www.facebook.com/messages/ in a web browser. If you aren't already logged into your Facebook account, enter your email address or phone number and password to do so now.
  2. You'll see your open conversations in the left panel.

    • If you're using the Messenger desktop app, this will look like Theme.
  5. A pop-up window will open.
  6. You can click a certain color or gradient from the selection.
  7. This will change your chat theme.
