Things You Should Know

Feed 2 axolotls using 2 separate buckets of tropical fish.
Watch hearts appear over the axolotls’ heads after they eat. Within a few seconds, they’ll breed and create a baby axolotl.
Wait 20 minutes for the baby axolotl to become an adult.

Gather 2 axolotls in a location with water. Collect wild axolotls using an empty bucket—you can find them swimming around the lush caves biome. Bring them back to an enclosed location on your farm that has a pool of water.
- Similar to frogs, axolotls can’t be “tamed” like wolves and cats.
- To automatically get the lush cave biome, create a new world with seeds like:

  - -6281032827949366960
  - 8982479184696970002
- You can also attach a lead to an axolotl and guide it around. Just keep it close to the water, as axolotls die if they spend more than 5 minutes continuously on land.^{[1]

Feed both axolotls with 2 buckets of tropical fish. While holding a bucket of tropical fish, right-click on each axolotl to feed them—you’ll need 2 buckets to feed both. Hearts will appear over both axolotls’ heads, and a few seconds later, a baby axolotl will be born.
- To get a bucket of tropical fish: Scoop up a tropical fish in a bucket. These fish are found in oceans, lush caves (like axolotls), and mangrove swamps.^{[2]

How hard is it to breed blue axolotls?

It’s very hard—there’s less than a 0.1% chance of breeding a blue axolotl. Breeding is the only way to get a blue axolotl without cheats, so you just have to continuously breed axolotls until you get the right color.

Axolotls are passive but will be aggressive to certain aquatic creatures. Axolotls won’t attack dolphins, frogs, or turtles, but they will attack most other aquatic mobs, like squid, tropical fish, and Guardians.
