Do you want to hide some of your text on Facebook Messenger because it might be considered a spoiler? You can now hide text with the spoiler feature! Not all Facebook Messenger users have access to the Spoiler feature yet, but don't worry—if you don't, you can use the Gift effect as an easy workaround. This wikiHow article teaches you how to add a spoiler warning in Facebook Messenger on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.
Things You Should Know
- If you have the spoiler feature in Messenger, type your message, select your spoiler text, tap the three dots, and select "Spoiler."
- If you don't have Spoiler yet, use the gift effect to send a hidden message on Facebook Messenger.
- To add the gift effect, type your message, tap the search icon, and then tap the gift icon.
Steps
-
Open a chat in Facebook Messenger. Because the Spoiler option isn't available on your computer, you'll need to use the Messenger mobile app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.
- Spoiler is not available to everyone. If you aren't able to add a spoiler with this method, the Gift effect is a great workaround!
-
Type your text. Tap the text field at the bottom of the screen and use the on-screen keyboard to write your text.Advertisement
-
Select the text you want to add a spoiler to. Formatting options will appear above the highlighted text.
-
Tap ⋮. You'll see this three-dot icon to the right of the pop-up menu.
-
Tap Spoiler. If you don't see this option, the feature is not available in your area. If it's there, tap it to add a spoiler to the selected text.
-
Send your message. Once the other person receives your message, they can tap the spoilered text to reveal the hidden message.
-
Open a conversation where you want to send a hidden text. Since the Facebook website can't add effects to messages, you'll need to use the mobile app on your Android, iPhone, or iPad.[1] The Gift effect is a great alternative to the Spoiler feature because it hides the text until the other person taps it.
-
Type your text. Tap the text field at the bottom of the screen and use the on-screen keyboard to write your text.
-
Tap the wrapped gift icon. You'll see it under the "Send effects" header. You may need to scroll down or right to find it.
- Note that tapping this will immediately hide the entire message inside the gift-wrapped icon and the other person won't see the message until they tap it.
- If the person you're sending the message to is on a computer, they will see the message immediately followed by (sent with gift wrap effect).
