PDF download Download Article

While Venmo and Zelle don't have built-in features to transfer money between the two, you can work around this by linking a bank account to both platforms. However, keep in mind that you must be eligible for Venmo's Debit Card to add money to your Venmo balance in general. Here's how to send money between Zelle and Venmo.

Things You Should Know

  • You can't directly send money to Venmo from Zelle, but you can link a bank account as a workaround.
  • Link a bank account to Venmo and Zelle. Use the bank account to transfer money to Venmo.
  • You must be approved for a Venmo Debit Card to add money directly to your Venmo balance.

  1. You won't be able to directly transfer funds between Zelle and the Venmo app. You can link a bank account to both platforms and use it as an intermediary when transferring funds.
    • For example, you can transfer Venmo funds to your bank account, which can then be used to send money with Zelle.
    • Similarly, any money you receive via Zelle will automatically be added to your bank account and can be transferred to your Venmo balance.
      • Keep in mind that you must be approved for a Venmo Mastercard Debit Card to have the option to add money directly to your Venmo balance.[1]

  1. If you used a debit card when first creating your account, you can add a new bank account. Do the following:
    • Open Venmo.
    • Tap Me.
    • Tap Wallet.
    • Tap Add a bank or card…
    • Tap Bank.
    • Select a verification method.
    • Enter your information.
  2. Most banking apps have Zelle built into the app. In this case, you'll just need to find the Zelle feature and quickly activate it. You'll need to confirm your personal and banking information to get started.[2]
    • If your bank app doesn't support Zelle, you can download the Zelle app for iOS in the App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store.
      • When you enroll through the Zelle app, you'll be asked to provide a Visa or Mastercard debit card.
  3. When you get paid through Zelle, the funds will automatically go to your linked bank account. If you want to move funds from Zelle to Venmo, do the following:
    • Wait for Zelle payments to finish pending.
    • Check your bank account to confirm the new balance.
    • Open Venmo.
    • Tap Me.
    • Tap Manage Balance.
    • Tap Add money.
      • If you don't see this option, you have not been approved for the Venmo Debit Card, and you won't be able to add money to your balance at this time.
    • Select your bank.
    • Enter the amount and source.
    • Tap Add.
  4. You can transfer your Venmo balance to your bank account, which can then be sent again through Zelle. If you want to move funds from your Venmo balance to Zelle, do the following:
    • Open Venmo.
    • Tap Me.
    • Tap Add or Transfer.
    • Enter the amount.
    • Select a deposit speed.
    • Tap Transfer.[3]
