Have you noticed a new feature on TikTok called "nudge"? This feature is available to all users in DMs and profile view history, but is only available to some users via the profile screen. A nudge is similar to Facebook's "poke" and is a simple way to get someone's attention without sending a message. From the profile view, nudging a creator lets them know you want them to go live, and from DMs or the profile view history, nudging lets a friend know you want to chat. Keep reading to learn how to do each type of nudge, as well as how to disable nudges as a creator.
Things You Should Know
- Click the bell icon on a creator's profile and select the "nudge" option to let the creator know you want them to go live.
- From the profile view history, you can nudge a friend who has recently viewed your profile to let them know you want to chat.
- From your DMs, you can nudge a friend to notify them that they haven't replied to your message yet.
Steps
On a Profile
-
Tap the bell icon in the upper-right corner. If you don't already follow the user, after tapping the bell icon, you'll get prompted to follow them.Advertisement
-
Click the Nudge option in the LIVE notification settings window. Note that the "nudge" feature on creator profiles is not yet available for all users, as TikTok is still testing it, so you may not see it after tapping the bell icon.
From Profile View History
-
Go to your profile. You can do so by tapping the Profile button in the bottom-right corner. Nudging someone from your profile view history can show that you noticed that they were looking at your profile and that you want to chat.
-
Tap the footprint icon in the upper-right. This is your Profile views section, where you can view who has looked at your profile in the last 30 days.
-
Tap the Nudge button next to your friends. You can only nudge friends that have viewed your profile. If you're not friends, you will see a Follow button instead.
In DMs
-
Go to your inbox. You can do so by clicking the speech bubble icon at the bottom of the screen titled Inbox.
-
Select a chat with someone you want to nudge. Nudging someone from a DM shows that you're interested in chatting or want to notify them that they didn't respond to your last message.
-
Select the Nudge button above the message box. It will have a pointing finger emoji next to it. This will send a nudge to your friend.
Turning Nudges Off
-
Go to your profile. You can do so by tapping the Profile button in the bottom-right corner.
-
Tap the three-line menu button in the upper-right corner. Several options will pop up at the bottom of your screen.
-
Select Creator Tools. After selecting the menu button, it will be near the top of your options.
-
Select Nudge. You will only see this option if you have profile nudges available to your account.
-
Toggle off "Allow viewers to nudge you". This will disable nudges only through your profile. Friends will be able to nudge you via DMs or via the profile history view.
