Finding Other Uses for Avocado

  1. Mash up the avocado first, then stir in the egg white, rolled oats, and lemon juice; make sure that there are no streaks of egg yolk. Massage the mask onto your hands, wait 20 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.[11]
    • ¼ avocado, peeled and pitted
    • 1 egg white
    • 2 tablespoons (10 grams) rolled oats
    • 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) lemon juice
  2. Mash together the avocado and banana until the color and texture are consistent. Massage the mixture over your hands. Wait 10 minutes, then rinse the mask off with warm water.[12]
    • ½ avocado, peeled and pitted
    • ½ banana or 1 small banana, peeled
  3. When you peel an avocado, there will always be some dark green pulp clinging to the skin. Scrape this pulp off with a spoon and apply it under your eyes. Close your eyes and place cotton pads soaked in cool water over them. Wait 10 to 15 minutes, then remove the pads and rinse the avocado off with warm water.[13]
    • This dark green pulp is full of concentrated vitamins.
    • Lay down some place comfortable and relaxing, if you can.
  4. Mash up the avocado until it is smooth and chunk-free. Stir in the olive oil, brown sugar, and honey; do not use white sugar as it will be too harsh. Dampen your face with water, then massage the scrub over it, avoiding the eye area. Rinse the scrub off with warm water, then pat your face dry.[14]
    • Do not use regular white sugar for this; it is too harsh for your skin.
    • ½ avocado, peeled and pitted
    • 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) olive oil
    • 1 tablespoon (12.5 grams) brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon honey
  5. Prepare the avocado face scrub using the recipe above. Reserve a spoonful and add 1 drop of peppermint essential oil to it. Massage the scrub over damp lips, then rinse it off.[15]
    • The peppermint oil will help plump up your lips!

Avocados are rich in healthy oils, lipids, essential minerals and antioxidants. An avocado mask can help to soothe, soften and moisturize the skin, but to get the full skin benefits of avocados, you should eat them regularly as well.

When washing your face, use cold water. If you shower with warm water, make sure to switch it to cold before you get out and splash it on your face. Cold water helps make pores smaller.

Tips

  • Incorporating avocados in your diet is another way to receive the benefits they provide for your skin. Eating avocados can help your skin retain its elasticity, for example, due to their being a healthy source of Omega-3s, healthy oils, antioxidants, and essential minerals.[16]
  • If you are doing a hand mask, cover your hands with plastic bags or loose-fitting plastic gloves. This will help trap moisture and keep your surroundings clean.
  • Hair masks can get messy. Wear an old shirt or drape a towel over your shoulders.

Warnings

  • Not every mask will work for everyone. Just because a mask worked for your friend or family member does not necessarily mean that it will work for you.
  • Do not use the mask if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
