Easy steps to remove your Microsoft account from PS5
PDF download Download Article

If you've played Minecraft or Sea of Thieves on your PlayStation 5, you might be wondering if you can unlink your Microsoft account that you signed in with when playing these games. While you can technically unlink your account, there is one caveat: even if you unlink accounts, you can't link a new Microsoft account to your current PlayStation account (though you can link a different Microsoft account to a different PlayStation account). If you still need to unlink your Microsoft account from your PS5, however, keep reading to learn more.

Unlinking Microsoft and PlayStation Accounts

  • To unlink your Microsoft account from Minecraft, go to Minecraft's settings, then select Account > Unlink Microsoft Account.
  • To unlink your Microsoft account from Sea of Thieves, open the game's settings, then select PlayStation 5 > Unlink Account.
  • Even if you unlink accounts, you won't be able to link a new Microsoft account with your PlayStation account.

    • If you unlink your Microsoft account, any progress or purchases made in Minecraft on your console won't be stored on your Microsoft account.

Check the boxes. There are four boxes you must check. To check them, scroll over them and press X.[2]
    • The checkboxes ask you to confirm that you understand that you won't be able to access in-game store content when you play on other platforms, that you won't be able to play cross-platform games with friends on other platforms, and that you won't be able to access any Realms after unlinking your Microsoft account.
  5. 5
Scroll down and select Unlink. After a few moments, the unlinking process will be completed.
    • You can only associate one Microsoft account with one PlayStation account, even if you unlink them in Minecraft.[3] Even if you unlink the accounts, you won't be able to link a new Microsoft account with your PlayStation account.

Can I link a new Microsoft account to my PlayStation?

  1. Yes, you can link a new Microsoft account if you make a new PlayStation account. Once you link a Microsoft account to a PlayStation account, you can only ever link those two accounts together, even if you unlink your Microsoft account. If you need to link a different Microsoft account to a PlayStation game, you'll need to create a new PlayStation account.
    • If the game requires PlayStation Plus, you'll need to have an active PlayStation Plus subscription on your new PlayStation account to play the game.
