If you're an American TikTok user, you're likely looking for an app to use in place of TikTok. While the US TikTok ban was supposed to go into effect on January 19th 2025, the app came back online less than 24 hours later.^{[1]

In this article, we go over 16 apps that can be alternatives to TikTok, depending on what type of content you like to use TikTok for.

Alternative Apps to Replace TikTok

Two of the most popular apps to replace TikTok are RedNote (also called Xiaohongshu) and Lemon8. TikTok refugees are also moving to YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook to use their built-in short-form video feeds. There are also a few newer apps to try, including Loops and Neptune.

  - Since RedNote already has a sizable user base, there's a lot of content to view and interact with.
  - Many Chinese users seem eager to welcome Americans.
- Cons:
  - TikTok creators who aren't from America likely won't be moving over, since the ban doesn't affect them.
  - Non-binary and LGBTQ users have been censored or banned for discussing their identity.

However, Instagram doesn't allow users to go live in Reels, but they can go live on Instagram Live (which is kind of nitpicky, but still a difference).

  - Many users already use Instagram.
  - Instagram will likely not get banned in the US.

  - It's very similar to TikTok, so users will have an easy time switching over.
- Cons:
  - The app is owned by ByteDance and could be banned alongside TikTok.
