This article was co-authored by Noel Lindsay and by wikiHow staff writer, Sophie Burkholder, BA. In 2005, Noel Lindsay founded Sleep Science Partners, Inc. with the goal of creating a consumer-driven process to screen, diagnose, treat, and manage sleep apnea via telemedicine as well as to provide scientifically proven therapeutic treatment for simple snoring, which is snoring without obstructive sleep apnea. In 2007, the company became the first to make this type of treatment available directly to consumers without a prescription. An online questionnaire and an innovative algorithm determined medical appropriateness, pairing patients with dentists who had written standing orders for treatment. Since then, the company has successfully helped well over a million people to obtain more restorative sleep. Prior to founding the company, Noel worked in venture capital, investment banking, marketing and engineering, and he was the first product manager of a computer networking company that became the first acquisition of Cisco Systems.

Snoring can be a real pain, whether you’re keeping your partner awake at night or feeling fatigued all day as a result. With so many so-called anti-snoring devices on the market, it can be hard to know which ones really work and which ones are just a gimmick. Fortunately, we created a list of the most common anti-snoring devices, including the ones that actually help and the ones you're better off skipping.
Which device is best for stopping snoring?
MRDs (mandibular repositioning devices) are typically considered the best anti-snoring devices. They're FDA-cleared, and historically prescribed by dentists, meaning they’ve been tested and proven to be effective. Now the FDA has cleared certain MRDs for over-the-counter (OTC) use, meaning that they don't require a prescription.
