Like its predecessor, Hollow Knight, Silksong has five canonical endings. Also like its predecessor, you must meet certain requirements to unlock each ending. In this article, we’ll break down the requirements for each ending—first in a spoiler-free section (for those who want to maintain some of the mystery) and then more in-depth, with spoilers. Keep reading for everything you need to know!

The Five Endings in Silksong

There are a total of five endings in Silksong, all of which are available in the base game. The endings can be achieved in a single save file, but only if you complete the third ending second. The potential endings are named after the achievement you earn for getting them:

  • Ending 1: Weaver Queen
  • Ending 2: Snared Silk
  • Ending 3: Twisted Child
  • Ending 4: Sister of the Void
  • Ending 5: Passing of the Age

Ending Unlock Requirements (No Spoilers)

  1. 1
Ending 1: Weaver Queen Many of Hollow Knight’s endings are exclusionary, meaning that some of the requirements involve not achieving other endings first. For clarity, the best order here (if you want to get all endings) is 1, 3, 2, 4, then 5. The requirements for the first ending are:
    • Not having achieved Ending 2 (Snared Silk).
    • Defeat Grand Mother Silk.
    • Bind with Grand Mother Silk after defeating her.
  2. 2
Ending 2: Snared Silk The second ending requires completing the Caretaker’s wish, “Silk and Soul.” To unlock it, you have to complete a long list of wishes and quest points. More on this later. To summarize, this ending requires you to:
    • Complete the Silk and Soul wish.
    • Defeat Grand Mother Silk.
    • Use the Needolin after beating Grand Mother Silk.

Ending 3: Twisted Child The first two endings are pretty straightforward, but the requirements for Endings 3-5 are relatively elaborate. For Ending #3, you must:
    • Not have completed Ending #2 (Snared Silk).
    • Complete Rite of Rebirth.
      • Obtain the Cursed Crest and lock into it.
    • Don’t complete Infestation Operation.
      • This prevents you from upgrading the Cursed Crest into the Witch Crest, which is a requirement here.
    • Defeat Grand Mother Silk.
  4. 4
Ending 4: Sister of the Void This one is pretty straightforward. Nothing else matters except one element:
    • Defeat Lost Lace.
  5. 5
Ending 5: Passing of the Age This is a “bonus” ending, but it does unlock an additional cutscene and give you an achievement. The requirements are:
    • Not complete the Grand Mother Silk fight.
    • Complete the Passing of the Age.
      • This is a unique wish with two elements: find a hidden poem, and locate the Herald at his seven various locations.
    • Complete the steps for Ending #4.

What happens in each ending? (Spoilers Ahead!)

  1. 1
Ending 1: Weaver Queen After beating Grand Mother Silk, you bind with her and take her place to become the new Weaver Queen. The Mask icons that represent your health are replaced with spider masks, and your Silk pool increases. Threads appear everywhere from the Cradle to the Citadel. The scene ends with Hornet curling up in the center of the silk, where you can see her growing eight new arms.
    • Achievements for this ending: The Cradle menu style and the Weaver Queen achievement.
  2. 2
Ending 2: Snared Silk After completing Silk and Soul and defeating Grand Mother Silk, play the Needolin. This activates the soul snare, which traps Grand Mother Silk to the Void by opening a portal to the Abyss. You see tentacles pulling the Grand Mother into the darkness, and she tries to pull Hornet down with her. Lace shows up and saves Hornet, but is ultimately pulled down into the depths with her. Hornet falls but the portal to the Abyss closes. The scene ends with Void tentacles bursting up from the ground outside of the Citadel.
    • Achievement for this ending: The Abyss menu style and the Snared Silk achievement.
  3. 3
Ending 3: Twisted Child If you carry the Cursed Crest and beat Grand Mother Silk, tons of organic vines burst out of the Grand Mother’s body and ensnare her. Alongside the Grand Mother, Hornet and the Cradle are turned into Roots. A wooden egg appears, which hatches into some unknown creature, and the scene fades to black.
    • Achievements for this ending: The Greyroot menu style and the Twisted Child achievement.
  4. 4
Ending 4: Sister of the Void After finding and defeating Lost Lace, the Void lets go of her. Hornet carries Lace to the Grand Mother and asks her for Silk. The Mother (curiously enough) actually grants Hornet’s request. Hornet uses the silk to escape the Void with Lace, leaving the Mother where she is. Hornet then see the Knight (from the first game) and other variations of “the chosen ones” in the Void, which protect her from being attacked. Hornet and Lace escape and share a little warm moment before the scene goes to black.
    • Achievements for this ending: The Surface menu style, a Lace pin on Hornet’s needle in the main menu, and the Twisted Child achievement.
  5. 5
Ending 5: Passing of the Age Complete Ending #4 first. Then, complete the Passing of the Age tasks. To do this, you must:
    • Find the Hidden poem.
      • It’s located in the Putrified Ducts. From Fleatopia, go right and climb up the blue stone. Use Silk Soar to reach the hidden area at the top and inspect the stone tablet to read the poem.
    • Find the seven locations where Herald is hanging out.[1]
      • 1: Mosshome (in front of the Chapel entrance).
      • 2: Bone Bottom (in the bottom right near the Marrow entrance).
      • 3: Far Fields (bottom right near the Weavenest Cindril entrance).
      • 4: Greymoor (top left, past all of the spikes).
      • 5: The Slab (bottom left, near the entrance to Mount Fay).
      • 6: Mount Fay (the top, in the same area you found the double jump).
      • 7: The Cradle (where you fight Grand Mother Silk).
    • After completing the Lost Lace fight, a cutscene will play showing Herald flying off into space (this is functionally identical to the final hidden ending of Hollow Knight). The screen fades to black and “To Be Continued” appears on the screen.
    • Achievements for this ending: The Passing of the Age achievement.

Section 3 of 3:

Which ending is correct?

PDF download Download Article
  1. Every ending is (likely) equally valid and canonical. The original Hollow Knight also has five endings. When asked about the five Hollow Knight endings in a Reddit AMA, Ari (the co-founder of Team Cherry and lead artist on both Hollow Knight and Silksong) gave this answer: “All endings are equally canon. We're not into 'True Endings.' You choose the path yourself.” Unless Team Cherry’s attitude here has changed dramatically, the same logic surely applies to Silksong.
    • With that context out of the way, Ending #4 is probably the “best” ending. Not only do you save Lace and reform her, but you also get rid of Grand Mother Silk. Hornet and Lace are buddies, peace has been restored, and we even get to say hello to the protagonist from the first game!
