Are you getting the error "Sign out is not available due to restrictions?" If you can't log out of your Apple ID or iCloud, your account is restricted by the Screen Time feature. If you're the one who enabled Screen Time, you can easily disable it so you can sign out without errors. Keep in mind you must have your Apple ID and password to remove or change a set Screen Time passcode. This wikiHow article will show you how to manage and turn off Screen Time account restrictions on your iPhone or iPad.

How to Fix "Sign Out is Not Available Due to Restrictions"

You'll see this message when Screen Time restrictions prevent you from signing out of your Apple account. To fix it, open the Settings app and go to Screen Time → Turn Off Screen Time, enter your passcode, and tap Turn Off Screen Time again.

What does "Sign out is not available due to restrictions" mean?

   You have Screen Time restrictions enabled on your account. When this restriction is in place, your Apple account will be grayed out in the Settings app, and you won't be able to sign out. You also won't be able to tap your Apple ID or access it through the Settings menu. If you need to sign out of your Apple ID, you'll need to enable account changes or turn off Screen Time completely.

   • You must know your screen time password to fix this error. If your parent, employer, or teacher manages your iPhone or iPad, you will likely need to ask them to help you fix the problem.

Disabling Screen Time

   Open the Settings app

   • It won't be possible to disable Screen Time if your school or parents manage your iPad. If you are not the one who enabled Screen Time for your Apple account, you'll need to ask the person who did for help.

   Tap Screen Time. You can find this in the second group of options, underneath Focus.

   Tap Change Screen Time Passcode. It's towards the bottom of the menu. This will display a menu with two options.

   • If you are using an earlier version of iOS, tap Turn Off Screen Time instead.

   Tap Turn off Screen Time Passcode. It's the second option in the menu. This option will disable all Screen Time restrictions that are set up on your iPhone or iPad, which also gets rid of the "Sign Out Is Not Available Due to Restrictions" error.

   Enter the Screen Time passcode. This is the 4-digit code you create when you set up Screen Time restrictions. You will need to enter this code to disable your Screen Time restrictions. Once Screen Time is disabled, you should be able to return to Settings and tap your Apple ID to sign out without seeing any errors. You can create a new one if needed.

   • If you don't remember your Screen Time passcode, do the following:
     • Return to the Screen Time page.
     • Tap Change Screen Time Passcode.
     • Tap Change Screen Time Passcode or Turn Off Screen Time Passcode.
     • Tap Forgot Passcode?.
     • Enter your Apple account name and password to reset or remove it.

Enabling Account Changes

   • Use this method if you don't want to turn off Screen Time but still need to access your Apple ID.
   • This method still requires your Screen Time passcode.

   Tap Screen Time. You can find this in the second group of options, underneath Focus.

   Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. This will be underneath Always Allowed.

   Enter the Screen Time passcode. This is a 4-digit code you set up when you enabled Screen Time restrictions.

   Allow specific account changes. If you want to only allow specific account changes, tap the account or privacy feature you want to allow. Then tap Allow.

   • If you are using an earlier version of iOS, tap Account changes and then tap Allow.

   Tap the toggle switch next to "Content & Privacy Restrictions." This will disable all content and privacy restrictions and allow you to make any changes to your account you want.

   • You should now be able to sign out of your Apple ID.

Contacting Apple

   Contact Apple for help. If you're the owner of the device and Apple ID, and you still can't sign out, you can contact Apple. The easiest way is to visit the Apple Support contact page and select your device. Select a topic, and then you can speak to a Support member through text chat or phone.
