How to Make a Google Maps URL Shorter

By default, copied links are shortened automatically. When you paste them into a browser's address bar, you'll see the original, longer version. If you're not happy with the shortened link, you can use services like Bitly to make it even shorter.

Open Google Maps. You can use the website, or the mobile app on your tablet or smartphone.
- Links copied from Google Maps are automatically shortened. Whether you're using a computer, tablet, or smartphone, the link will be shortened when you copy it.
You can find destinations in your Saved, Recents, or by clicking or tapping the search bar.

Click or tap Share. You'll see this next to a

- On the mobile app, this button is at the bottom of your screen.
The short link will be copied to your clipboard so you can paste it anywhere!

TinyURL. Sign in with a free account for simple link management like creating shortened links and links that don't expire, and more. This is the simplest and most direct user interface, and is compatible with most major web browsers.
Ow.ly. Hootsuite owns and operates this link shortener, so it integrates seamlessly with Hootsuite products. Ow.ly also tracks link analytics, so you can keep an eye on your shortened link's performance. Being a part of Hootsuite makes this link shortener the perfect option for someone managing social media marketing.
Dub. Create up to 25 shortened links for free and track them up to 1,000 clicks. You can also create up to 3 custom domains and a subdomain for free, as well as advanced tracking, like what city people are clicking your links in and the device they are using. Most link shorteners don't offer this much for free.

Create and publish a form, then click the link button, and Shorten URL. This will shorten the URL to a limited number of characters. However, you can shorten it even more with a URL shortener.
- Not all Google services, like Google Docs, have the checkbox for "Shorten URL." Instead, press Tab on your keyboard to shorten Docs to their title.
Google used to shorten URLs, but goo.gl links will no longer work after August 25, 2025.^{[1]
