Whether you want to show your friends your latest discovery or simply check out what they've been jamming to, Spotify makes it really easy with Spotify Codes. These codes can be created on your desktop computer or mobile device, but they can only be scanned using the mobile Spotify app. Here's how to create and scan Spotify Codes using your computer, iPhone, iPad, or Android.
Scanning Spotify Codes on Mobile
To scan a Spotify Code, open the Spotify mobile app and tap the search icon. Tap the camera icon, and then point your camera at the code. Spotify will recognize the code and redirect you to the song, playlist, or artist.
Steps
How to Scan Spotify Codes
-
Open the Spotify mobile app. Spotify Codes are meant to be scanned within the Spotify app. This won't work on your smartphone's camera the same way QR codes do. There's currently no way to scan Spotify Codes on your computer.[1]
- This method shows you how to scan a Spotify Code that has already been created. For steps on how to create a Spotify Code to share with others, see the next section.
-
Tap Search. This is at the bottom of the screen, next to the magnifying glass icon.Advertisement
-
Tap the camera icon. You'll see this in the top-right corner of the app.
- If this is your first time scanning a code, you'll need to allow access to your camera.
-
Point the camera at the Spotify Code. The app will scan the code.
- If the code is valid, you'll be taken to the song, artist, playlist, or page on Spotify.
How to Create Spotify Codes
-
Find what you want to share in the Spotify app. Spotify generates codes for songs, albums, artists, playlists, and podcasts. Any of these are eligible for sharing.
- You do not need to currently be playing a song or podcast in order to share it.
-
Hold Alt (Windows) or ⌥ Option (Mac) and right-click the content. This will open the menu.
- Continue holding the key.
- If you're using the mobile app, tap the three-dots icon.
-
Hover over Share and click Copy Spotify URI. If you see "Copy Spotify Link", close the menu and try the previous step again.
- If you're using the mobile app, select Show Spotify Code at the bottom of the menu. Then, tap Save to photos or screenshot the image. You can then share or upload the code anywhere you'd like.
-
Go to spotifycodes.com. This is the official Spotify website to convert Spotify URIs to Spotify Codes on desktop.
-
Enter the Spotify URI in the field and click Get Spotify Code. This field is near the center of the page.
- If you're using this tool for the first time, click Continue once you've read the acknowledgements and FAQs.
-
Customize your code (optional). You can change the default generated background color, size, bar color, and format.
-
Click Download. This is below the Spotify Code. You can now share the Spotify Code with others.
- You can also click the Facebook, X, or Reddit icons to quickly share your Spotify Code on those platforms. If you aren't already logged in, you'll be asked to enter your login information.
- When you upload your Spotify Code, others can simply scan the code within the Spotify app to quickly see the content.
