Do you have an audio message on WhatsApp that you want to keep? You can easily save the file to your computer using WhatsApp on the web or by sending it to your email via the mobile app. This wikiHow teaches you how to save a previously recorded voice message from WhatsApp to your desktop computer, laptop, iPhone, or Android.
Steps
-
1Open a conversation in WhatsApp on your computer. If you don't have the desktop version of WhatsApp yet, download and install it first, and be sure to log in to your account.
- Since the WhatsApp desktop app synchronizes with your phone's WhatsApp app, all of your conversations will appear here.[1]
-
Hover your mouse over an audio message. You'll see a downward-facing arrow in the top-right corner of the message.Advertisement
-
Click the downward-facing arrow. Doing so will prompt a drop-down menu next to the message.
- If you don't see this arrow, right-click (or control-click) the message.
-
4Click Select. This is in the drop-down menu. This will add a green check mark on the left of the message. Be sure to select any other voice messages you want to save.
-
5Click the "copy" button at the top. This is the overlapping rectangles icon. The audio messages will be saved to your clipboard.
-
6Navigate to an empty folder or area on your desktop. This is where you'll be pasting the file.
-
7Paste the file. Right-click (or control-click) an empty area, and then select Paste. The file will be pasted as a WAPTT file, which can be opened using an internet browser.
-
8Open the file. Right-click (or control-click) the file, select Open with, and then select a browser such as Firefox or Chrome. The audio message will play in the browser window.
-
1Open a conversation in WhatsApp. This should be the conversation with the voice message.
- If this is your first time opening WhatsApp on your phone, you'll need to first set up WhatsApp. You can find the Chats tab at the bottom of the screen.
- If WhatsApp opens to a conversation, just tap the back button in the top left corner of the screen.
-
Tap and hold the audio message. A bar of options will appear above the message.
-
Tap Forward. It's the middle option in the bar above the message.
-
Tap the "Share" button. It's the upward-facing arrow in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
-
Tap Mail. It's the blue app with a white envelope icon.
- If you don't have iCloud Mail enabled, this option won't work; you'll have to swipe left on the apps listed here to use a different email provider if you have one.
-
Type your own email address into the "To" field. The "To" field is near the top of the screen.
-
Tap Send. It's in the top-right corner of the screen.
-
Open your email account on a computer. You may need to log in to the email account with your email address and password before you can open it.
-
Click the email from yourself. Doing so should open the email and load the audio message.
-
Download the audio message. Depending on which email service you use, this process will vary; however, in most cases, you'll click a downward-facing arrow on or below the audio message's icon. Once it's finished downloading, your WhatsApp audio message will be available for listening on your computer.
