Change the name of your AirPods or AirPods Pro

Want to change the name of your AirPods? If you received them secondhand, or if you don't like the default name, you can easily change it. You'll just need to connect the AirPods to your Apple device to get started. Here's how to rename your AirPods and what to do if you can't change it with tips from Apple Support Specialist Josef Storzi.

Quick Steps

  1. Connect your AirPods to an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Open Settings or System Settings.
  3. Tap your AirPods.
  4. Tap More Info (i).
  5. Tap the current name.
  6. Enter a new name and tap Done.

  1. If you're unable to change the name, or if you can't get your AirPods to connect, let them charge for an hour first.
  2. When you reset your AirPods, you'll need to pair them to your devices again.
    • To reset, open the AirPod case. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the light blinks amber, and then white.
    • To set it up again, Storzi advises to "open the airpods case next to your phone. A dialog box will appear on your iPhone prompting you to connect to them. Click connect and that’s all."[2]
