Target times when the dog needs to relieve themself, such as after sleeping or first thing in the morning. Pop the dog onto the pee pad and, when they go, give lots of praise and a treat. Keep repeating this. Then add in a cue word as the dog squats, such as "Toilet," and reward the dog when they go.

It's a good idea to choose a toilet spot. Make it somewhere convenient and sheltered (out of wind and rain). Take the dog there when they are most likely to need to pee, such as first thing in the morning or after a sleep. When the dog relieves themself, give lots of praise and a treat to reward the dog.

Toilet train as usual put pop the pup on a pee pad when it's time to relieve themself. Pop the pup on when they walk in the morning, after a sleep, before play, or every 20-30 minutes when awake. Praise and reward when they use the pad. Don't leave the pup unsupervised so that they can't pee in the wrong place.

This can be done but be patient, as it can take weeks or months. Use the same methods as for a puppy, such as staying with the dog all the time and, when they show signs of sniffing to toilet, pop them outside. Crate train the dog for those times when you have to go out. Be sure to get rid of odors where the dog has toileted indoors.
