If it is a semi-permanent dye or a demi, you can get clarifiers to help loosen up the amount of pigment that was deposited. If you have permanently dyed hair that needs to be lightened, it can be difficult to do it at home because the strength of the products you need may damage your hair if they are not used properly. I recommend seeing a professional hair stylist.

Permanent hair dyes can be extremely difficult to remove without professional help, as you need professional-grade color strippers and leeches to remove permanent dye. If not used properly, these can dry out your hair and damage it even further to the point in which a professional needs to step in and help you correct that.

The majority of our color corrections in the salon are the result of box dyes. When you dye your hair, you're balancing out a color, and if your hair is already pre-dyed, the color will appear differently on your natural roots than how it will look on the previously dyed hair. Try to look into the base color of the dye you are using and consider seeing a professional hair stylist. They will have an understanding of color theory and what colors cancel out other colors.

Definitely 10 if you're just going a shade lighter, but if you want something bold go with the 30.
  • Question
I want to go from dark brown back to my ash blonde what should I do?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
You could dye it back (but that is not at all healthy for your hair) or you could wait for it to grow out. Either way, consult a professional hair colorist so you don't do any more damage to your hair.

Maybe over time, with multiple bleaches, but I would consult a hair specialist. If you decide to do it yourself, make sure you follow the tips in the article and do your research.

I think you can but you have to be really careful with bleaching your hair because you can cause bad damage to your hair if you overdo it.

Ask your mother. If she disallows you, listen to her, but if you want to bleach your hair so badly, go for it. However, your mom will eventually find out, seeing the shade of your hair. When she finds out, say sorry and explain to her that you really wanted to bleach your hair. Your mom will probably get over it somehow.
  • Question
Can only bleaching achieve a lighter color for dark hair?

Unfortunately, you will have to bleach your hair if you wish to go more than two shades lighter. You can dye dark brown hair to light brown without bleach, but if you want to achieve platinum blonde, you will need to use bleach. If your hair is anywhere from levels 4-9 (dark brown to light blonde), you will only need to bleach once. However, if you have really dark hair, you may need to bleach it 2-3 times, and sometimes you can't reach level 10 or platinum blonde if your natural hair color is inky black.
