PDF download Download Article

If your music file doesn't already have album art, you can easily update it. You can choose to add an image from the internet or from your own library. This wikiHow article teaches you how to put a cover photo on a music file using Windows Media Player.

Adding Album Art in Windows Media Player

To automatically put a cover photo on an MP3 file in Windows Media Player, right-click the song or album and select Find album info. Select an album from the results and click Finish. To add your own album art, drag and drop an image onto the existing art.

  1. This program comes with Windows devices. To find it, click the Start menu and type "windows media player". Click the first result.[1]
    • On Windows 11, this will look like Windows Media Player Legacy.
    • Windows Media Player can also be used to copy or burn CDs, play DVDs, and more.
  2. If you don't see your music file in the library, click the Music tab on the left, and then drag and drop the MP3 file into the Windows Media Player window.
    • Windows Media Player should automatically add the song's cover art. If you don't see it, or if you want to add your own cover art, proceed to the next step.

  4. A new window will open. You'll see the song's album(s) on the right side.
  5. This will apply the album art for the selected album.
  6. If you'd rather use your own image as the cover art, do the following:
    • Click the Music tab.
    • Pause the song or album if it's currently playing.
    • Drag and drop the new image onto the existing image.
