How to Send a Private Message on Roblox

Do you want to send another player a private message on Roblox? Luckily, there are multiple easy ways to private chat with other players on Roblox. Roblox allows you to send a private message to other players in the chat during a game as well as send a private message to another player's profile outside the game. This wikiHow article teaches you how to send a private message on Roblox.

Things You Should Know

Type "/w" followed by a username, or click the username you want to message in the chat. Then type your message.
To message another player's profile, go to their profile page and click "Message" or "Chat" in their profile banner.
You and the other player must have your privacy settings set to allow private messages in order to private chat outside of a game.

Open the Roblox website or mobile app. If you are using a PC or Mac, go to https://www.roblox.com/ in a web browser. If you are using a mobile device, open the Roblox mobile app.
- If you are not logged in automatically, click or tap Log In. Sign in with the username and password associated with your Roblox account.
Click Home on a PC, or tap the icon that resembles a house on the mobile app. Click or tap a game you want to play, and then click or tap the green Play button to start playing Roblox.

The chat appears in the upper-left corner by default. If you don't see the chat, click or tap the icon that resembles a speech bubble in the upper-left corner to display the chat.^{[1]

Click the username you want to private message. If you see the user you want to message in the public chat, click their username. This will display "[To Username]" in the chat.
- Alternatively, you can type /w followed by the username you want to message in the chat. Make sure you add a space between "/w" and the username.^{[2]

Press ↵ Enter, or Send. If you are using a PC, Mac, iPhone, or iPad press the Enter or Return key. If you are using the Android mobile app, tap Send. This will send your message to the other user.
- Be careful. Private messages will still appear over your character's head as a speech bubble.
- Additionally, you can voice chat with other players, but you will need to verify your age.
- Alternatively, you can also use third-party apps like Discord, Telegram, or WhatsApp to chat, private chat, and voice chat with other players.

Open the Roblox website or mobile app. If you are using a PC or Mac, go to https://www.roblox.com/ in a web browser. If you are using a mobile device, open the Roblox mobile app.
- If you are not logged in automatically, click or tap Log In. Sign in with the username and password associated with your Roblox account.

Find the user you want to message. If you follow or have added the person you want to message as a friend, you can find them by clicking or tapping Friends. If they are a member of a group you are in, click or tap Groups and then tap the group to see all members. Otherwise, use one of the following steps to search for a Roblox user:
- PC and Mac: Click the search bar at the top of the screen and type the username of the person you want to message. Click Search in People in the drop-down menu.
- Mobile app: Tap the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner. Type the username of the person you want to message in the search bar and tap Send or Return. Tap the People tab at the top to search for users with the username you want to message.
Once you find the user you want to message, click their username to view their profile on PC or Mac. If you are using the mobile app, tap their username and then scroll down and tap View full profile.

Click or tap Message or Chat. If you are friends with the person you want to message, click or tap Chat in their banner profile at the top. If you are not friends with the person you want to message, click or tap Message.^{[4]

- If the "Message" button is greyed out and unclickable, the user may have their privacy settings set to not allow private messages. Alternatively, you may have your own privacy settings set to not allow users to message you. You can't send a private message if you don't allow private messages on your own account.

Write your message and send it. Enter your message in the space at the bottom of the chat window. Then press Enter or tap the Send button to send your message.^{[5]
